🌱 Connecting with Families Across Niagara! 🌱

We’ve loved our visits this month to several Niagara Region EarlyON locations throughout Niagara! 🏡✨

It’s been wonderful meeting families, sharing helpful resources and information, and supporting caregivers as they navigate the programs, services, and opportunities available to them.

We’re grateful for our partnership with EarlyON and the opportunity to connect with families right in their communities. 🤝

We look forward to visiting more locations, meeting new families, and continuing to share information and resources to help families feel supported, informed, and connected! 💙

🍁🍫 Maple Syrup, Chocolate & Meaningful Connections! 💙

Our Adult Social Club had the sweetest time exploring maple syrup and chocolate together in Niagara Falls! 😋

Our group learned about the different types of maple syrup, enjoyed taste samples, and then gathered in the dining area to share conversation and enjoy their favourite refreshments together. 🍁☕

But one of the sweetest parts of this event goes far beyond the treats! 💙

Some of our Adult Social Club members have been part of our group since it first began over 12 years ago! Over the years, not only have lasting friendships grown among our adults, but caregivers have built lifelong friendships of their own. 🫶

We loved seeing some caregivers stay to connect and catch up with one another while our adult members enjoyed each other's company, too!

This is what community is all about — creating meaningful connections, nurturing friendships, and sharing special moments together. Here's to many more years of friendship, laughter, and sweet memories! 💙🍁

Safer emergency responses start with listening to autistic people. When an autistic person goes missing, their safety, privacy, and individual needs must remain at the centre of the response. Autism Ontario is proud to endorse Autism Alliance of Canada's new report, What We Heard: Building a Safer Emergency Response When People Go Missing. Marg Spoelstra, Autism Ontario's CEO, and Amanda Dimilta, Chief Advocacy, Policy & Community Engagement Officer, participated in a national roundtable alongside autistic people, families, first responders, disability advocates, and community leaders to explore how emergency responses can be strengthened. This important work reinforces the need for emergency responses that include autistic perspectives, respect individual privacy and agency, and support better planning, training, and coordination before, during, and after an emergency. We are grateful to Autism Alliance of Canada and everyone who contributed to this conversation. Together, we can help build safer, more informed, and coordinated responses that bring missing autistic people home safely.
