Ending youth homelessness truly is an all‑hands‑on‑deck effort — one that takes focus, persistence, and strong collaboration across our community.

When the goal of ending youth homelessness by 2030 was first announced, it felt ambitious. Challenging, yes — but achievable if we stayed committed and worked together.

Today was a powerful reminder of that momentum. I was pleased to come together with Mayor Mark Sutcliffe, many of my Council colleagues, and partners from across the community to share progress, including:

✅ Meaningful movement on new mixed‑use, mixed‑income housing at 1245 Kilborn Place
✅ A significant expansion of Operation Come Home’s Master Leasing Program, helping more young people move off the street and into stable housing
✅ The launch of a Champions Table dedicated to ending youth homelessness through shared leadership and accountability

Working alongside community organizations, dedicated City staff, and committed colleagues continues to show what’s possible when we align around a common goal. There is still work ahead — but the momentum is real, and it’s growing.

Grateful to everyone who is helping move the needle. Together, we’re building a city where every young person has a safe place to call home.

Mettre fin à l’itinérance chez les jeunes est véritablement un effort collectif — qui exige de la concentration, de la persévérance et une collaboration étroite à l’échelle de notre communauté.

Lorsque l’objectif de mettre fin à l’itinérance chez les jeunes d’ici 2030 a été annoncé pour la première fois, il semblait ambitieux. Un défi, certes — mais réalisable si nous restions engagés et travaillions ensemble.

Aujourd’hui a été un rappel puissant que l’élan est bien réel. J’ai eu le plaisir de me joindre au maire Mark Sutcliffe, à plusieurs de mes collègues du Conseil municipal et à des partenaires de l’ensemble de la communauté pour faire le point sur les progrès accomplis, notamment :

✅ Des avancées significatives dans le projet de nouveaux logements à usage mixte et à revenus mixtes au 1245, place Kilborn
✅ Une expansion importante du programme de location principale (Master Leasing Program) d’Operation Come Home, permettant à davantage de jeunes de quitter la rue pour accéder à un logement stable
✅ Le lancement d’une Table des champions dédiée à la lutte contre l’itinérance chez les jeunes grâce à un leadership partagé et à une responsabilité collective

Travailler aux côtés des organismes communautaires, du personnel municipal dévoué et de collègues engagés continue de démontrer ce qui est possible lorsque nous nous unissons autour d’un objectif commun. Il reste encore du travail à faire — mais l’élan est bien là, et il ne cesse de croître.

Reconnaissante envers toutes celles et ceux qui contribuent à faire avancer les choses. Ensemble, nous bâtissons une ville où chaque jeune peut avoir un endroit sûr à appeler chez soi.

Tomorrow on May 4, join us at Ottawa City Hall for Red Dress Day—a public event to honour Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls, and Two-Spirit People.

Event Highlights:

Sacred Fire Lit: 10:00 AM
Workshops and Activities: 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM
Official Program Starts: 12:00 – 1:30 PM
Lunch provided by Birch Bite (while supplies last)
Seal Skin Pin Workshop with Vanessa Brousseau: 2:00 – 3:00 PM at the Knox Presbyterian Church, Parlour Room (120 Lisgar Street)
