What began as a chance to bond with her infant son blossomed into a supportive community of friends, resources, and opportunities.

Today, we recognize World Elder Abuse Awareness Day and join communities around the world in raising awareness.
Awareness is an important first step, but it's our actions that create change. Checking in on older adults, reducing isolation, learning the warning signs, and speaking up when something doesnโt seem right can all make a difference.
For World Elder Abuse Awareness Day we invite you to wear purple, start a conversation, take time to learn more from our resources, and help raise awareness for elder abuse prevention.
Together, we can build communities where older adults are supported and safe.

Our 50th Birthday Giveaway: Volunteer Stories Edition - Silvia Davila
Being a volunteer has been a truly transformative experience. It has allowed me to discover a renewed sense of purpose and connect with people from different parts of the world. It is there that the true lesson of humanity begins: understanding that we all have the ability to help and support one another.โ
The empathy of this community reminded me that we all have the ability to help.โ
โ
This experience has become a new source of energy that motivates me to keep moving forward and gives greater meaning to my life. Being able to serve others and feel part of something so special is an invaluable gift. Finding a new family within this community has made me feel fulfilled, supported, and at home.โ
โ
Mount Pleasant has been more than just a place to volunteer; it has become a home. Here, I found support, friendship, and the strength I needed to continue building my path forward.

Our 50th Birthday Giveaway: Volunteer Stories Edition - Mikaila
My favourite memory from volunteering at Homework Club at Mount Pleasant Neighbourhood House happened recently when one of the elementary students came up to me and said,
โMikaila! Where were you last week?! I wanted to update you about what happened at school, but you werenโt even there!โ
When she told me this, I was surprised because I didnโt think any of the students would notice my absence, since other tutors were present. And the fact that one of the coordinators at Homework Club told me that this student was looking for me while I was away just goes to show the impact we (as tutors) have on these kids. With that said, this is (by far) my favourite memory from volunteering at Homework Club because I was able to develop a relationship with this student to the point where she not only felt comfortable enough to talk to me about these things, but is eager to share whatโs going on in her life and genuinely wants me to know.
