🌾 HAPPENING NOW | JOINT WHEAT GERMPLASM SELECTION AT KARC
Kulumsa Agricultural Research Center-KARC
A joint wheat germplasm selection exercise is currently underway at the main station of Kulumsa Agricultural Research Center (KARC), bringing together national wheat research teams, regional agricultural research centers, and other researchers to strengthen collaboration and advance wheat research in Ethiopia.
The exercise aims to familiarize researchers with different generations of wheat breeding populations, particularly segregating generations, and facilitate the evaluation, advancement, and selection of promising materials for future research and variety development.
💡 Strengthening Collaboration and Knowledge Sharing
During the discussion session, participants highlighted the importance of strengthening coordination and harmonizing research efforts among the Ethiopian National Agricultural Research System (NARS), including the Ethiopian Institute of Agricultural Research (EIAR) and Regional Agricultural Research Institutes (RARIs).
Discussions also focused on improving researchers' familiarity with crossing programs, international nurseries, and breeding materials to enhance the effectiveness of national wheat improvement efforts.
Furthermore, participants emphasized the need for continuous technical discussions, experience sharing, and collaborative engagement to strengthen the program and maximize its contribution to wheat research and development.
