Nasinu Town Council Chairman, Mr. Felix Magnus, recently joined the dedicated team at the Valelevu Police Station to observe and celebrate Pinktober alongside our local police officers.
On behalf of the Council and the Government, we extend our heartfelt gratitude to the men and women of the Fiji Police Force at Valelevu. Day in and day out, our officers step up to protect our families, maintain peace, and serve our community with unwavering dedication. Police work goes far beyond enforcing the law—it is a true calling that demands bravery, patience, and a deep commitment to the safety and well-being of every resident in Nasinu.
Joining together for Pinktober provides an invaluable opportunity to honor that service while standing united behind a vital health cause.

We thank the Valelevu Police Station for opening their doors to mark this meaningful occasion and for their continued sacrifice in keeping our municipal boundaries safe.

This afternoon, our Chairman, Mr Felix Magnus, took time out of his busy schedule to meet with our Depot workers, giving them the opportunity to openly share some of their requests, concerns and needs regarding their daily work.

Our Depot team was happy and appreciative of the Chairman’s response and, most importantly, the opportunity to be heard.

Our Depot workers play an important role in serving the people of Nasinu. Much of their work is carried out on the ground and out in the field, where having the right support, resources and equipment is important to help them perform their duties efficiently, effectively and safely.

We thank our leadership team for continuing to make time to come down to the operational level, listen to our workers and better understand the challenges they face in carrying out their daily responsibilities.

Strong leadership is not only about making decisions, but also about being present, listening and working together with the people who serve our community every day.

Vinaka vakalevu to our Chairman and our hardworking Depot team for your continued commitment to serving the people of Nasinu.

This morning, our Chairman and Acting CEO, Mr Felix Magnus, had the honour of officially opening the first-ever Market Day at FNU Nasinu Campus, a wonderful initiative that brings together students, communities and small businesses for a worthy cause.

In his address, Mr Magnus thanked Fiji National University (FNU) for organising this meaningful initiative, with proceeds from the event going towards the FNU Foundation to assist students facing financial difficulties. He acknowledged the importance of creating opportunities that ensure financial hardship does not become a barrier to education and a better future.

Mr Magnus also highlighted the realities faced by families living within informal settlements across Nasinu. He encouraged the FNU Foundation and other stakeholders to continue looking at ways to reach into these communities, particularly to support young people who may lack opportunities or the financial means to pursue their dreams.

He reminded everyone that we are one community and one family. No one is higher or lower than another. Too often, the struggles of vulnerable families can go unnoticed and their cries for assistance unheard. Initiatives such as this create an opportunity for organisations, businesses and communities to come together and make a positive difference in someone's life.

The Market Day also provides an important platform for small businesses and local entrepreneurs to showcase and market their products, reach new customers and grow their businesses.

We therefore encourage the people of Nasinu and surrounding communities to come down to FNU Nasinu Campus and support this great initiative. Bring your family and friends, support our local vendors and small businesses, and most importantly, contribute towards a cause that can help students continue their education.

Every purchase is more than a transaction. It is an investment in a student, a small business and our community.

This morning the Senior Health and Community Engagement officer had productive discussions with Mr Makoto Yamash*ta, JPRISM Expert (Recycling Technology) and Mr Naresh Narayan, JICA/JPRISM Project Coordinator on the progress of the Return & Earn Project in Nasinu.The meeting provided an opportunity to review achievements, discuss operational challenges and future direction of the project. Together, we are working towards a cleaner and more sustainable Nasinu.

BUILDING CAPACITY THROUGH SPORT | INVESTING IN NASINU’S YOUTH

This morning, our Chairman and Acting Chief Executive Officer, Mr Felix Magnus, officially opened the three-day OSEP Community Coaching and Sports Administration Workshop, funded and facilitated by the Fiji Sports Commission under the Fiji Sports Commission – Oceania Sport Education Programme (OSEP).

In his opening, Mr Magnus expressed his full support for the programme, recognising the important role that sport plays in developing our young people, strengthening communities and creating positive pathways for personal growth, leadership and participation.

The programme provides specialised training in OSEP Community Coaching and OSEP Sports Administration, strengthening participants’ knowledge in athlete-centred coaching, safe and inclusive participation, sports governance, financial accountability, event planning, partnerships and the effective management of sporting organisations.

For the youth of Nasinu, programmes such as this create opportunities beyond competition. Sport can help build discipline, confidence, teamwork, leadership and respect, while providing positive environments where young people can develop their talents and become active members of their communities.

The training also strengthens the people working behind the scenes. By developing qualified coaches and capable administrators, our sporting organisations and community clubs can become better organised and more sustainable, creating stronger pathways for athletes from the grassroots level towards higher levels of competition.

The Council acknowledges the Fiji Sports Commission for its investment in community sports development and congratulates the Nasinu Volleyball Alliance for taking this important step towards strengthening its capacity and raising its operational standards.

The Chairman reaffirmed his full support for initiatives that empower our youth, strengthen grassroots sport and bring our communities together through positive participation.

Stronger coaches. Stronger administrators. Stronger youth. Stronger communities. Together, we move Nasinu forward.

A cleaner and safer Nasinu does not happen by chance. It is the result of ongoing efforts by the dedicated Enforcement and Health Teams of Nasinu Town Council, who work tirelessly to protect our communities and ensure a healthier environment for all residents.

Over the months, the Council has served notices on 75 derelict vehicles, helping to remove hazards, improve public safety, and enhance the appearance of our neighbourhoods. In addition, 5 dangerous vehicles are now undergoing legal proceedings due to non-compliance with Council directives.

To address illegal waste disposal, the Council has also issued 35 Fixed Penalty Notices of $200 for offences including:
✅ Illegal dumping of rubbish
✅ Dumping waste outside approved collection schedules
✅ Dumping rubbish into drains and waterways

These enforcement actions are part of Council's commitment to maintaining a clean, safe and healthy environment for everyone living, working and doing business in Nasinu.

We acknowledge the hard work of our Enforcement and Health Teams who continue to serve the community through inspections, education, compliance monitoring and environmental health initiatives. Their efforts play a vital role in safeguarding public health, protecting our environment and preserving the beauty of our town.

Together, we can all do our part. Dispose of waste responsibly, keep our surroundings clean, and comply with Council regulations.
