As of 12pm on Saturday 24th October, there are 11 regional Flood Alerts and 10 local Flood Warnings in place as is set to bring wet and windy weather with a risk of surface water, river and coastal flooding across many parts of Scotland this weekend.

A band of persistent rain will affect most of Scotland through Saturday. By the evening, it will turn much windier bringing widespread high winds and severe gales with particular concern around coastal flooding impacts for western areas.

Frequent heavy showers or more organised bands of rain will develop across northern Scotland during Saturday evening in association with Storm Boelo, continuing through Sunday morning and early afternoon.

Accumulations of 20-40 mm are expected widely within the warning area through this period, with 60-80 mm possible in some locations, bringing flooding and travel disruption in a few places. Showers will become less frequent later through Sunday afternoon.

We are preparing to trial new street lighting, signage and road markings on a section of the A952 at Mintlaw.

Lower carbon options currently being installed between the East Mains of Pitfour roundabout and the pavilion on North Street include the installation of highly reflective signs, new road markings and solar-powered studs.

The aim is to reduce long-term carbon emissions associated with the construction and maintenance of such infrastructure on major routes.

Solar-powered road studs are being installed on October 29 and 30 which will see North Street to the C4B road closed from 9.30am and 4.30pm each day with formal diversions in place via the A952, A90 and A952.

The proposal for the Mintlaw testbed will involve switching off the streetlights on October 30 at and on the approaches to the Balring Roundabout and also those on the A952 southwards to a point just north of the access to the garden centre. As this section lies on the village edge, pedestrian activity after dark is minimal, although a pedestrian island with nearby bus stops has been noted and mitigation measures have been designed accordingly.

Several mitigation measures are being installed including the use of solar-powered road studs, passive infrared sensor-controlled lighting at the pedestrian island and the use of high-performance materials for road markings and signs.

Aberdeenshire is one of several local authorities supporting East Riding of Yorkshire Council in trialing next-generation, low-carbon lighting and visual road technologies through the Live Labs 2 research programme – a three-year, £30 million, UK-wide programme funded by the Department for Transport.

The Live Life Aberdeenshire booking system is now up and running again. The swimming lesson portal is still unavailable, but we're working to restore it as soon as possible.

The system was taken offline yesterday as a precaution because of the recent cyber-security incident reported across the world. We'd like to reassure customers that there has been no security breach of our systems.

All leisure venues remain open, and swimming lessons can still be booked in-person. Libraries, museums and our websites remain unaffected.

Thank you for your patience and we apologise for the inconvenience. We'll share another update as soon as the swimming lesson portal is back online.

The Met Office has issued an Amber warning for strong winds across most of Scotland, including Aberdeenshire over Saturday and Sunday (Oct 24 and 25).

Residents are urged to take extra care and avoid unnecessary risks. Strong winds can bring large waves, flying debris, fallen trees and localised flooding, creating hazardous conditions across the region.

Please avoid coastal paths and clifftops during stormy weather. Even from the shore, large breaking waves can sweep people off their feet and out to sea. Rivers and burns may also rise quickly, so stay well back from flooded riverbanks and fast-flowing water.

Woodland and forestry areas can be particularly dangerous during high winds due to the risk of falling trees and branches. Take extra care if travelling and avoid entering forests or wooded areas where possible.

Now is the time to protect your property and prevent injury. Check for loose items around your home, including bins, garden furniture and trampolines, and secure them before the worst of the weather arrives.

To report fallen trees on the road network, call 03456 081205 during office hours. Out of hours, contact Police Scotland on 101. In an emergency, always dial 999.

An Amber warning for wind has been issued for much of Scotland and parts of Northern Ireland and northern England.

Road users are advised that the section of the B974 Cairn O’Mount at Spittal Burn, Glen Dye will be closed for eight days from Monday (Oct 26) to enable us to undertake essential resurfacing works.

Access will be provided for emergency services and vehicles requiring access to immediate properties only.

We must divert safely to roads that are the same class as the one that is closed, so the recommended detours are as follows:
