Looking for something to do this half-term? There's plenty happening at Bamburgh Castle this week! 🎃

Uncover the Castle's gruesome past with Gory Stories, meet some rather questionable characters in The Doctor Will See You Now, or get stuck into some spooky crafting. Please check out Whats On listings for exact dates and times for each event.

On Saturday (31 October), we'll also be welcoming All Stars Choir for a special performance in the Castle.

Plus, it's the final week of our Tails & Tales trail, which comes to an end this Sunday (1 November) - so don't miss your chance to give it a go!

Whether you're visiting for the history, the Halloween fun or simply a family day out, we'd love to see you!

Visitor Notice - Strong Winds Due Tomorrow (27 October).

Strong wind gusts of up to 48mph are forecast for tomorrow, Tuesday 27 October. While we plan to remain open, we ask all visitors to take extra care if visiting the Castle.

If you or anyone in your party is unsteady on their feet, we recommend rearranging your visit. Please email us if you would like to discuss changing your booking.

We also advise against bringing pushchairs up the hill in these conditions.

Your safety is important to us, and we thank you for your understanding. Please keep an eye on our social media for any further updates, although we do expect to remain open as normal 10am - 4pm, last admission 3pm.

Winter opening hours 🍂

From Sunday 25 October, Bamburgh Castle will be moving to winter opening hours.

The Castle will continue to open at 10am, with closing time moving forward to 4pm as the nights draw in. Last admission will be at 3pm. 🏰

A Christmas Carousel opens at Bamburgh Castle on Saturday 14 November!

This year, our State Rooms will be transformed by the magic of much-loved Christmas carols, with each room inspired by a different festive favourite... and we can't wait! ✨

Open daily* from 14 November – 3 January, and included with general admission - no additional installation ticket required.

Hidden history: Lord Armstrong’s Victorian ventilation system 🔎

Have you ever noticed these wooden fittings around the Castle?

They may look like simple wooden boxes, but they were part of Lord Armstrong’s Victorian 'air conditioning' system, connected to vents leading outside to bring fresh air into the building.

There are several throughout the Castle, each a small reminder of the clever engineering incorporated into this historic building.

On very windy days, the air vents can flap up and definitely still work to this day!

It’s often the details you might walk straight past that have the most interesting stories to tell!
