We have 500 acres of beautiful wetland, woodland and grassland all set within a unique urban environment. The site has a vast array of species and is a key site for the elusive bittern during the winter. Posting policy:

UPDATE: The cafe and visitor centre will now close at 3pm. Thank you for your ongoing support of Yorkshire Wildlife Trust!

⚠ We've been monitoring the weather, and due to the ongoing high winds forecast today, we have closed access onto Potteric Carr nature reserve.

The Visitor Centre and cafe remain open for hot brews and inside views until 4pm today.

We expect to reopen the reserve on Tuesday as usual. ⚠

It was a busy one for migrating birds on the reserve last weekend. 🤩 There was even a weasel that came out to watch the action!

Thanks to Martin Warne for the wonderful photos, including; pink-footed geese, greylag geese including a leucistic one, shovelers and some gadwalls. 🪿

Spooky season is nearly here! While it's a fantastic time to head out onto the reserve and discover mini beasts such as spiders, it's also a timely reminder about the dangers that artificial cobweb decorations can pose to wildlife. 🕸️

This Halloween, why not let nature do the decorating? Beautiful spider webs, like this one glistening in the autumn sunshine, are far safer and far more impressive than the artificial alternative. 🕷️🍂
