It’s going to be a hot couple of days, so we need to make a couple of changes for Wednesday 24 and Thursday 25 June:

⌛We'll be closing at the slightly earlier time of 3pm.

🌳We will be adapting outdoor tours and demonstrations and delivering these as talks in more shady areas.

🚫Hobbs’ Fish and Chip Shop will be closed, however our other food and drink outlets will remain open.

🐾While we usually welcome dogs on Thursdays, we won’t be welcoming dogs during the heatwave this week.

If you're joining us for a sunny day in the past, make sure you remember your essentials for a safe visit in the sunshine:

🥛Drink plenty of water – there are several water bottle refilling stations around the Museum

🏘️Make use of the shade in our buildings and from awnings

😎 Ensure you’re protected with factor 30+ sunscreen

‍🧥Avoid heavy or tight-fitting clothing

We’re recreating a 1960s front room to tell the story of a Windrush Generation family building a new life in the Black Country and we’d love your help bringing it to life.

We’re looking for authentic objects and personal stories from the Windrush Generation. Do you still have souvenirs from your first journey to England, or letters sent to loved ones back home? Perhaps you have original items from the 1960s you’d like to see displayed in the Museum.

Charity Anne Bick GM was a British civilian despatch rider during the Second World War and later served in the Women's Royal Air Force.

During a 1940 air raid on West Bromwich, she helped her father to put out an incendiary bomb that had lodged in the roof of a shop. When the roof gave way, she fell through and suffered minor injuries. Nonetheless, she then used a borrowed bicycle and made numerous attempts to deliver a message to the control room, one and a quarter miles away, avoiding bombs and shrapnel. She made repeated trips, at least three of which occurred during the height of the raid.

She was the youngest ever recipient of the George Medal, the United Kingdom's second-highest award for civilian bravery. The medal was presented to her by King George VI in a ceremony on 10 September 1941. She also received the Defence Medal and War Medal at the end of the war.
