Medway NHS Foundation Trust This is the official page of Medway NHS Foundation Trust (Not 24/7). Includes news, updates and information from Medway Maritime Hospital.

Medway Maritime Hospital treats around 400,000 patients each year mainly in Medway and Swale, but increasingly other parts of North and West Kent too. Everyday we see around 1,400 outpatients, about 250 patients use our emergency department and approximately 150 patients need to be admitted for hospital care and treatment. The range of specialist services we offer have grown over recent years, as have the communities we serve, bringing to Medway services which in the past, patients have had to travel miles for. This includes the cardiac catheter suite, West Kent Vascular Centre, West Kent Centre for Urology, and the Macmillan Cancer Care Unit.

Helping children get surgery-ready.

Our Consultant Paediatric and Perioperative Anaesthetist, Dr Samantha Black, who is also Patient Information Lead at the Royal College of Anaesthetists, has collaborated with Joe Wicks, The Body Coach, and Sheffield Children’s NHS Foundation Trust to create a series of exercise and wellbeing videos to help children and young people prepare for surgery and build healthier habits.

Dr Black said: "Exercise can improve recovery, support mental health and reduce screen time. By working with Joe Wicks, we hope to help families use surgical waiting lists as preparation lists, with simple activities that make movement part of everyday life."

The videos combine short, accessible exercises with practical advice on physical activity, nutrition, sleep, stress management and overall wellbeing.
