๐ฃ๏ธ I am relieved to learn that the proposed changes to Lochgelly Fire Station have been deferred.
๐ฃ๏ธ Hopefully, common sense will prevail and longer-term assurances will be given in due course.
๐ฃ๏ธ Fires have devastated Lochgelly and the neighbouring towns and villages in recent times and the removal of an appliance and firefighters would have been completely shortsighted and reckless.
๐ฃ๏ธ I believe this outcome would not have been possible without the extraordinary and positive campaign lead by the station's firefighters, community groups and residents, and local politicians and representatives.
โถ๏ธ Following yesterday's SFRS Board meeting, below is the specific paragraph in relation to Fife from their website: (full statement via the link in comment section)
"Permanently replace the third appliance at Dunfermline which was a combined aerial rescue pump (CARP), with a dedicated high reach appliance (HRA), and defer decision on the remainder of the options pending further consideration of an alternative proposal to permanently implement the current temporary wholetime pump withdrawal configuration. This reduced the number of wholetime appliances at both Glenrothes AND Methil from two to one."

I'm relieved and pleased that Marionville Fire Station will be saved, thanks to a decision by the Scottish Fire and Rescue Serviceโs board. Along with many others, I have advocated strongly and passionately for a fire station to be maintained at Marionville to meet current demands and future needs, and to keep response times as short as possible in a local emergency. Recent fires on Arthur's Seat and at Sleigh Drive have again underlined the importance of where Marionville station is located, how brave and effective the fire officers based there are, and why this local asset must be retained. I pay tribute to everyone involved in the campaign to save the station, and we will keep making the case for investment in it to secure its future.
Thank you FBU East of Scotland, Living Rent Edinburgh, Craigentinny Meadowbank Community Council, Northfield and Willowbrae Community Council and everyone else whoโs engaged with me about this issue and campaigned constructively to save the station. We persevere.

The decision was made today.

๐ฅToday the Board of the Fire Service will make the final decisions on options that will see reductions in fire cover, fire stations closed and the โtemporaryโ removals of fire engines will become permanent.
There is still the chance that they donโt vote these options through and it was welcome to see the closure of Marionville averted and the Lochgelly options deferred, but the remaining options will see the biggest changes to the Fire Service in Scotland in decades.

๐ฅRegional Chair, Gus Sproul discussing the announcement that Marionvilleโs closure has been averted and removed from that option for the board meeting on Monday where the other SDR options will be decided on.
While this is a real victory for the members at Marionville and the local communities, many more of our members face uncertainty, and we know there are cuts to come ๐ฅ๐๐
