The South-West Permanence Project (SWPP)

The South-West Permanence Project brought together three Regional Adoption Agencies and 13 Local Authorities to explore new approaches to permanence planning and family finding for children with disabilities across the South-West of England.

Funded by Adoption England, the project focused on enhancing family finding, strengthening adopters and professionals knowledge and improving support to help more children find safe, loving and lasting families.

💜 This National Adoption Week, we’re celebrating the families who are built through adoption and the importance of embracing each child’s past as well as their future.

What does family mean to you? For one single adopter, it meant opening their heart and home to siblings, giving them the opportunity to grow up together in a safe, loving and supportive family. 🏡❤️

'Adoption Means Family to Me' shares part of their story, highlighting how adoption can transform lives while recognising the importance of children staying connected to their history, heritage and the people and experiences that have shaped them.

A child’s story doesn’t begin with adoption. Understanding where they come from, keeping connections to their past and helping them explore their life story are all vital to developing a strong sense of identity, belonging and self-worth. These connections help children understand who they are and know that their story matters.

Being a single adopter doesn’t mean you can’t change a child’s life. And helping siblings stay together can make an enormous difference to their sense of connection and belonging.

📖 Read their story and discover what adoption means to them: 🔗 https://adoptionwest.co.uk/adoption-means-family-to-me/

Could you be the person who helps a child feel safe, valued and proud of their story?

💜 Fancy a chat about adoption? We’d love to hear from you! 💜

Thinking about adoption but have lots of questions? Not sure where to start? You’re not alone! 😊

There are still a couple of spaces available at our Information Sessions this Saturday, and we’d love to welcome you.

It’s a great opportunity to meet our friendly team, find out more about the adoption process and get answers to those burning questions. We promise we’re approachable, and very few questions stump us! 💬

💜 You’ll also have the opportunity to chat with an adopter, who will be on hand to answer your questions and share their personal experience of adoption.

There’s no need to have everything figured out before you come along. Whether you’re just beginning to explore adoption or are further along your journey, we’re here to help you understand what’s involved and talk through any concerns.

🏡 Every adoption journey starts somewhere. Why not make your first step a conversation?

💜 What does adoption mean to you?

For National Adoption Week, we’re sharing stories from different voices whose lives have been shaped by adoption.

Today, we’re sharing the story of parents who welcomed their little girl through Early Permanence - a journey of love, hope and finding family. 💜

✨ You can read their inspiring story, Our EP Journey, on our website: https://adoptionwest.co.uk/our-ep-journey/

💜 What does adoption mean to you?

For National Adoption Week, we’re sharing the story of J, a birth mum whose two youngest children were adopted. Her story is a powerful reminder that adoption is not just about creating a new family, but about preserving a child’s identity, honouring their beginnings, and keeping important connections alive.

Through J’s experience, we explore the love that continues beyond separation, the importance of birth family connections, and the invisible threads that link children to the people who will always be part of their story.

Read J’s moving story and discover why staying connected matters. 💜
