Throwback to November 2025 when our Cracking Down on Crassula project began! 🌿

Over the last year we've made huge improvements to our wetland areas at RSPB Sandwell Valley, including removing most of the invasive crassula from the marsh.

This was a huge job involving amphibious diggers and a lot of mud! But after 3 weeks the crassula was cleared and the marsh was once again accessible to invertebrates and waders, with space for native plant species to grow too.

We're incredibly grateful to the Landfill Communities Fund and Enovert Community Trust for helping make this project possible 💚

This month the Landfill Communities Fund is celebrating 30 years of supporting green spaces and community places

As the daylight hours grow shorter and the nights draw in, we're shifting to our winter opening hours at RSPB Sandwell Valley 🍂

From Tuesday 27 October 2026 our new times will be:

ℹ Visitor Centre: 10am - 4pm
🚗 Car park: 10am – 4pm
🐦 Hide: 10am – 3:30pm (depending on volunteer availability)

All facilities are open Tuesdays - Sundays

Spotted this week! The bobbing jack snipe has been out on the marsh, foraging on an abundance of invertebrates due to extra access to the soft mud.

The drought conditions may have seemed bad for the marsh, but the dynamic management has certainly been a win! Green sandpipers, lapwings and snipe have also been seen foraging here lately 💚

The jack snipe are mostly showing in the afternoon at the moment, best seen from the Hide and on the marsh (as the sun is well positioned mid-afternoon).
