Meet Blossom, Plum and Daff. Three very special residents who have called Hellens home for many years! 💚

Blossom and her son Plum arrived together around 18 years ago, when Blossom was pregnant with him. Four years ago, Daff joined the family, having originally come from The Donkey Sanctuary. Once a therapy donkey, Daff now enjoys a well deserved, happy retirement here at Hellens.

These three have their own little loves in life, and one of them is music! They particularly enjoy our classical music concerts, making them rather cultured donkeys don't you think?

And if you're lucky enough to visit on a day when they're out for a stroll, do say Hello. These three are always happy to enjoy a gentle pat and a cuddle! 🫏❤️

Next time you visit Hellens, keep an eye out for our lovely trio. They're very much part of what makes this place so special.

A room fit for a queen! 👸

Created by Sir Richard Walwyn, who was knighted by Mary Tudor for his loyalty, this room was prepared in the hope of a royal visit. From the paintings by Tintoretto to Mary’s initials above the fireplace, every details tells a story.

And the ceiling centerpiece? Possibly a pomegranate honouring her mother Catherine of Aragon….or perhaps a rather unfortunate corn on the cob!

What do you think? 🏰

🍂✨ There’s still so much to look forward to at Hellens Manor!

As we head into the cosier months, we have a fabulous line up of events. From our produce markets, celebrating the best of local food, to our festive Christmas ceilidh filled with music, dancing and seasonal cheer. There really is something for everyone!

A little reminder that our house and gardens are now closed to general visitors until the 2027 season. We are still very much open for private tours and, of course our fabulous programme of events.

So, gather your friends and family, pop these dates in your diary, and head over to our website to book your place.

Last Wednesday, we celebrated the incredible 10-metre-long embroidery at Hellens Manor, telling a thousand years of history through needle and thread. 🪡

Created over seven years by 13 dedicated art society volunteers, this remarkable piece is a true labour of love, bringing history to life one stitch at a time.

A huge thank you to everyone who joined us to admire this extraordinary work of art! 💛

🍂✨ Autumn at Hellens✨🍂

“I'm so glad I live in a world where there are Octobers.” 🍁
― L. M. Montgomery, Anne of Green Gables.

There’s something rather magical about autumn at Hellens. As the leaves turn golden, the colours deepen and the gardens take on a whole new beauty.

A couple of autumnal views to celebrate this wonderful season and the simple joy of watching nature transform around us.

LUMBRE explores the richness of South American musical traditions through both classic repertoire and original compositions.

Formed by musicians from Argentina and Portugal, the ensemble brings together vocals from Aixa who some of you will know from Hellens Music, piano, 7-string guitar, violin and cello. Blending folk-rooted music with influences from jazz and chamber music.

The programme travels from the Andes to the Río de la Plata, featuring rhythms such as zamba, chacarera, huayno and candombe. Approaching folklore as living material, LUMBRE reshapes these traditions through refined arrangements, rhythmic interplay and dynamic contrast.

Concert starts from 19.30pm 🎶
Haywain Bar opens 30 minutes prior to concert.
Tickets £15
Free for carers and students in full time education

🌿 That’s a wrap on the 2026 season at Hellens Manor! 🌿

Our house and gardens are now closed
for the season, and we want to say a HUGE thank you to everyone who has visited us throughout the year.

Whether you booked onto a house tour, enjoyed a slice of cake in the tearoom, wandered through our beautiful gardens, or joined us for one of our events, thank you for being part of our 2026 season!!

It’s you, our wonderful visitors who bring Hellens to life. We’re so grateful for every single one of you.

We also want to say a massive thank you to our incredible team and volunteers, from those who lovingly care for our gardens to those who bring the history of the house to life on our tours. We simply couldn’t do it without you.

BUT… just because the house and gardens are closed for the season, it doesn’t mean the fun stops here! 🎉

We have some exciting events planned throughout the winter, from produce markets and Christmas ceilidhs to relaxing yoga retreats. There’s still plenty happening at Hellens so check the website for details:
