🚨 Labour Government Minister Emma Reynolds says employers aren’t ‘working people’

Tell that to Northumberland’s farmers, builders, shopkeepers and small business owners who work all hours, take the risks and employ local people.

Labour have already increased employers’ National Insurance contributions, making it more expensive to employ people.

Now we know how one of their Treasury Ministers views employers.

What a dangerous and ridiculous thing to say.

🚜 Huge privilege to be invited along to speak in Northumberland last night with past members of the Worshipful Company of Farmers Business Management Course who are farming between the Tay and the Tyne.

Giving an overview of my role as Shadow Farming Minister, I set out what we are doing nationally to hold this disastrous Labour government to account.

It is clear that Rural Britain is under attack by this government - and our farmers are feeling the brunt of their decisions.

Great questions from the floor, focused on how the legislation process works and what our plans are to drive better productivity and profitability across the whole food and farming sector. I am determined to win the trust back amongst our farming community.

👏 Well done to everyone involved in the Great North Walk!

🚶 Campaigners walked 80 miles from Berwick to Newcastle, highlighting the urgent need to make the A1 safer.

Their efforts culminated in 14,595 signatures being delivered to 10 Downing Street.

A huge thank you to Kezz Petronelli-Stone, Scott Fairnington, and everyone who took part, including Conservative councillors Cllr Guy Renner-Thompson, Cllr Ed Dungait - Longhirst and Scottish Borders John Lamont MP, who joined campaigners at Downing Street.

❓ But where were Northumberland’s Labour MPs?

There was no sign of David Smith, MP for North Northumberland, or Joe Morris, whose Hexham constituency includes a particularly dangerous stretch of the A1.

Both MPs were invited by the organisers, alongside other Labour politicians.

The A1 should be above party politics. This was an opportunity for politicians of all parties to stand alongside local people demanding action.

🚗 Northumberland deserves a safer A1. The campaign continues!

⚡ Wednesday’s Budget confirmed £100 of energy-bill support for 2027, compared with the £400 Energy Bills Support Scheme delivered under the Conservatives in winter 2022–23.

❌ Different schemes, different circumstances — but a £300 difference in headline support.

🔵 Northumberland Conservatives believe households deserve meaningful help with their energy bills, particularly those facing the highest costs.

❌ Wednesday’s Budget offered no new dedicated support for families who rely on heating oil.

💷 Labour’s benefits bill keeps ballooning!

📈 Welfare spending continues to rise, putting growing pressure on the public finances.

❌ Yesterday’s Budget failed to tackle the long-term challenge of rising welfare costs.

💼 We need a welfare system that supports those who genuinely cannot work, while helping more people who can work into employment.

🏥 That means tackling economic inactivity, improving access to healthcare and getting people back into jobs.

📢 Labour must get a grip on the welfare bill and put more people back into work!

💷 Taxes up AGAIN under Labour!

❌ Yesterday’s Budget brought more tax rises, with higher taxes on savings and property income, while income tax thresholds remain frozen.

🏠 Hardworking families across Northumberland are already feeling the squeeze from rising household bills and the cost of living.

📈 Freezing income tax thresholds means more people are dragged into paying higher taxes as their wages rise.

💼 Businesses are still facing Labour’s increased employer National Insurance costs.

🔵 Northumberland households and businesses deserve a Government that helps them keep more of their hard-earned money!

📢 Enough is enough. Stop piling more taxes onto hardworking people!
