Magpas Air Ambulance Magpas Air Ambulance is a charity that provides lifesaving care 24/7. With you, we save lives.

Magpas Air Ambulance brings crucial lifesaving care by land and air to patients in life-threatening emergencies in the East of England and beyond, 24/7. The Magpas Air Ambulance medical team receives enhanced training which allows them to offer procedures and treatments at the scene, like general anaesthetic, which are usually only available in hospital. This means that the frontline care the team delivers doesn’t just save lives, it helps seriously ill and injured people return to a good quality of life. The charity relies on generous public donations to continue saving lives.

It’s been a little foggy out there over the last few days!

With visibility dropping in places, remember to take extra care when travelling. Allow a little more time for your journey, keep your distance from other vehicles and make sure you can see (and be seen). Stay safe out there!

With half-term underway and the clocks having gone back, it’s a good time to take extra care on the roads.

Darker evenings and changing light conditions can make it harder to spot pedestrians, cyclists and other road users. If you're heading out this week, allow extra time for your journey, stay alert and make sure that your car is prepared for the changing weather.

Whether you're travelling near or far this half-term, take care and stay safe.

With you, we save lives.

On Thursday, 15th October, we were pleased to attend the Huntingdonshire Business Awards, where Magpas Air Ambulance was selected as the beneficiary charity for the second year running.

The evening raised around £1,800 for Magpas Air Ambulance through a raffle run by our dedicated volunteers, helping support our lifesaving work in our home of Huntingdonshire and across the East of England.

Thank you to Huntingdonshire District Council for supporting us, and congratulations to all the finalists and everyone involved in celebrating the achievements of local businesses supporting their community.

Last week, on Restart a Heart Day, we joined forces with the East of England Ambulance Service NHS Trust, Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, East Anglian Air Ambulance Charity and Royal Papworth Hospital to offer drop-in CPR training sessions in the Grand Arcade, Cambridge and the Harpur Shopping Centre, Bedford.

In total, we trained almost 600 people in the lifesaving skills of CPR and how to use a defibrillator. Our Community Training & Engagement Lead, Nicola, said: "It was wonderful to see everyone come together with a shared passion for raising awareness, building confidence and empowering people to act when it matters most."

Did you know?

After treating a patient on scene, our team decides which hospital is best suited to provide them with ongoing care.

For example, taking a critically injured patient to a major trauma centre such as Addenbrooke’s Hospital, or a patient requiring ongoing specialist care to a unit such as the Royal Papworth Hospital (pictured) for coronary care, or Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham for burns.

The decision depends on the patient's condition, injuries, and their location. They'll also decide whether it's quicker and safer to airlift them or take them to hospital in a land ambulance, where they can provide ongoing care more easily.

Last week, we hosted our second out-of-hospital clinical ultrasound course.

We were pleased to welcome clinicians from East of England Ambulance Service NHS Trust, South East Coast Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust, the Ministry of Defence and other organisations to the Magpas Air Ambulance headquarters for a day focused on developing knowledge and practical skills in pre-hospital ultrasound, supported by Philips.

The course brought clinicians together to explore how ultrasound can support decision-making and patient care in the pre-hospital environment, while sharing knowledge and experience from different areas of practice.

We’re proud to provide opportunities for clinicians to learn together, share expertise and continue developing the skills that help us provide the best possible care to patients 24/7.
