Nobody should have to face homelessness or rough sleeping.

That's why Ipswich Borough Council is proposing new measures to strengthen the work already helping people access support, suitable accommodation and advice.

The plans build on our existing homelessness and rough sleeping strategy and focus on prevention, partnership working and long-term solutions.

Proposals, include an updated homelessness and rough sleeping strategy action plan, a new temporary accommodation policy, and a long-term partnership plan to tackle rough sleeping.

As part of Black History Month, Ipswich Borough Council colleagues came together for a charity bake sale in support of the Mayor's Charity, BME Support Group.

It was fantastic to see so many colleagues showing their support, with even a visit from the Mayor herself. Thanks to all the delicious homemade treats and generous donations, we raised £134.29 for the charity.

Every penny raised will go to BME Suffolk Support Group, helping them continue their valuable work supporting communities across Suffolk.

Thank you to everyone who baked, donated and supported the event. ✨

Please keep our parks pumpkin-free this autumn! 🎃

We know many people want to help wildlife after Halloween, but leaving pumpkins in parks can do more harm than good.

Although animals may eat pumpkins, they can upset their stomachs, especially hedgehogs, which need to maintain the weight they've built up in preparation for winter hibernation. If they lose too much weight, they may not survive the colder months.

Here are some alternative ways to dispose of or reuse your pumpkins:

♻️ Use our food waste collections
All carved or inedible pumpkins can go into your food waste bin. Just remember to remove any candles, tea lights, paint, glitter, stickers and other decorations first.

🍽️ Turn it into a tasty meal
If you haven't carved your pumpkin and it is still edible, why not use it in your next dinner? Check out some delicious pumpkin recipes here: https://issuu.com/hubbubuk/docs/recipebook_pumpkinrescue_a4_oct2022?fr=sZGJkYjUyNjM3NTM

Thank you for helping to keep Ipswich's wildlife safe and our parks looking beautiful this autumn.

Cleaner air for Ipswich 🌿

Air quality in part of Ipswich has improved significantly, with nitrogen dioxide levels remaining well below national objectives in recent years.

A report to Executive next week recommends removing the Air Quality Management Area designation covering parts of the waterfront and town centre, reflecting seven years of sustained improvement.

The Deputy Mayor of Ipswich, Councillor Cathy Frost, joined service personnel, cadets, members of the Ipswich branch of the Royal British Legion and fundraising volunteers for the Ipswich Poppy Appeal launch at the Town Hall on Saturday 24 October.

The Ipswich Poppy Appeal 2026 forms part of the Royal British Legion’s national campaign raising funds to support veterans and their families.

Last year, the generous people of Ipswich raised over £116,000, and this year, the aim is to exceed that amount.

The Poppy Appeal launch marks the start of Ipswich's Remembrance period, which includes:
📅 Remembrance Sunday service on 8 November at the Cenotaph in Christchurch Park.
📅 Armistice Day commemorations on 11 November at the Fields of Honour in the Old Cemetery and the Cenotaph.

WE’RE STILL PROUD OF IPSWICH!

While we weren’t successful in becoming the UK City of Culture 2029, this journey has shown exactly what makes Ipswich so special.
The passion, creativity, heritage and community spirit that came together throughout the bid process have been incredible to see. Thousands of people, organisations, artists, businesses and residents got behind the vision, and that alone is something to celebrate.

This may not be the outcome we hoped for, but it’s not the end of the story. The ambition, partnerships and ideas sparked through this bid will continue to help shape Ipswich’s future.

💙 Thank you to everyone who supported the bid and championed our town every step of the way.

Let’s keep celebrating everything that makes Ipswich unique.

🎉 Exciting news for Ipswich families!

Work will be getting underway on a brand-new inclusive play area and outdoor fitness space at Alderman Road Recreation Ground.

The new facility will feature 95 play elements, including accessible and sensory play equipment, inclusive swings and seesaws, musical installations, climbing and spinning equipment, quiet spaces, and much more. There will also be a dedicated outdoor fitness area for older children, teenagers and adults.

Designed to celebrate local identity, the play area will include bespoke features inspired by Suffolk and Ipswich Town Football Club.

The project forms part of Ipswich Borough Council's £3.5 million Play Area Strategy, helping to create high-quality, accessible play spaces across the town.

🚧 The existing play area will remain open during the works, with completion expected by March 2027 (weather permitting).
