Anglia Care Trust We are a charity providing services to vulnerable people in Suffolk, Norfolk and Essex. Advice, guidance and advocacy - helping people to be heard.

Founded in 1968, we support vulnerable people within the community providing housing services, domestic abuse services, drug and alcohol services, counseling and mediation, money and employment advice, to adults, children, and families. Our services can be categories as:
Community safety: working with male and female victims of domestic abuse and providing outreach, crisis and intensive support along with advice and guidance on surrounding issues; alcohol recovery project
Housing services: helping vulnerable individuals to gain the necessary skills to maintain tenancies and live independently. We deliver housing services both on an independent basis and as part of a group of agencies working together and known as the SNAP Consortium. We provide money advice, employment advice; we run an Appropriate Adult scheme; we provide mentoring services and advocacy & Independent Visitor services and mediation services. We also part of the Ipswich Local Advice Partnership (ILAP), a partnership of 12 local agencies working together to improve the provision of advice for the people of Ipswich. We have 65 staff and around 100 volunteers - they are all amazing people, providing the best services and all of whom are dedicated to their work; our staff have taken part in many fundraising events to help provide extra services and we have created an Empowerment Fund to empower our service users to change their lives for the better. Grants are awarded for activities, training and support that’s proven to have a sustainable, long-term effect, and which can’t be gained elsewhere.

Today, we were at Ipswich Town Football Club.

Lizzie and Gill from our Drug and Alcohol Outreach Service attended a Brew Army event, bringing together veterans, serving personnel and organisations offering advice and support.

Working with Combat2Coffee, the Foundation provides free support for veterans and their families across Suffolk, offering a welcoming space to connect, share experiences and access practical guidance.

As we’re signed up to the Armed Forces Covenant, it’s a great opportunity to raise awareness of our drug and alcohol service and strengthen connections with others supporting the veteran community. Having someone to talk to, without fear of judgement, can be an important first step towards positive change. By building connections with veteran networks, community organisations and other professionals, we hope to make it easier for people to access the support available to them.

If your child is due to start secondary school in September 2027, you will be applying for their school place by 31 October 2026.

If you are waiting for an EHCP decision or going through mediation you must still submit your secondary school application by the deadline, even if you’re waiting for an assessment, an EHCP decision, or the outcome of mediation about your child’s needs or school placement.

Don’t miss the deadline while waiting for things to progress.

Please share to help other parents and carers.

Meet Katy, our Housing Manager.

At Anglia Care Trust, we know that having a safe and secure place to call home can make a huge difference to someone’s life.

Katy plays an important role in helping us provide housing and support to people who need it, working with landlords, managing properties and helping to create opportunities for people to build a more stable future.

When it comes to the team, Katy says:

“I’m proud to be part of a team that works together to make a real difference. We all bring different skills and experience but share the same goal of helping people access safe, secure housing and the opportunity to move forward in a positive way.”

Would you like to help our Housing Team make a positive difference? We’re looking for Housing Officers to join us. If you’re passionate about helping people and making a difference in your community, we’d love to hear from you.

Our Money Advice and Guidance team has delivered nearly 700 initial advice and guidance appointments in the past year. Many appointments lead to more in-depth support and ongoing follow-up as our team works alongside people to explore their options, tackle challenges and help them take positive steps.

Could you help us make a difference?

We are looking for volunteers to support with these calls.

You don't need to be a financial expert. What matters most is empathy, patience and a willingness to listen.

Our volunteers help people look at their individual circumstances, work through budgets, explore their options and identify practical ways forward.

If you have a few hours to spare and would like to use your skills to help others feel more confident about their finances, we'd love to hear from you!

Changes to prison release arrangements can bring renewed anxiety, fear and uncertainty for victims and survivors of crime.

If you’re worried about an offender being released earlier than expected, Victim Support’s Offender Release Helpline offers free, independent and confidential support. You don’t need to know for certain that someone is being released early to get in touch. The service is also available to witnesses, family members, friends and professionals.

In the past 12 months, our Mediation team have completed over 1500 advice and guidance calls across Suffolk and Norfolk, helping people navigate complex situations.

One example is Sian, who contacted us while struggling to navigate the education system and support her daughter who could no longer cope in mainstream school.

The local authority had refused to reassess them for an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP), which she needed to access a more suitable educational setting.

Working closely with Sian, our team gathered evidence, liaised with the local authority and home-schooling team and supported her throughout the process. Just two days before their scheduled Mediation, the decision was overturned

Every call represents someone looking for support. Sian’s story shows how advice and guidance can help families navigate complex processes, feel heard and take positive steps.

This Advice Week 2026 (led by Advice UK), we’re introducing you to Mark, part of our Money Advice team.

Whether supporting people over the phone or chatting to them at community events, Mark helps people make sense of their finances, explore their options and find a way forward when things feel overwhelming.

Mark has recently been described by one of our service users as “so calming on the phone - comforting and reassuring.”

For someone facing uncertainty, having somebody who listens and helps them work out their next steps in a calm way can make all the difference.

A massive thank you to our wonderful neighbours at Duncan’s in The Square, Martlesham Heath.

They very kindly donated a tray of delicious sausage rolls for our Cuppa, Snack and Chat event - and let’s just say they didn’t hang around for long.

We’ll be really sad to see Duncan and Sue leave The Square later this month – they have kept lots of our staff fed since we moved into our office 12 years ago, but we’re pleased to know the baton is being passed on so we will continue to be supplied with tasty treats.

Thank you Duncan’s for your generosity and for being lovely neighbours.

Our Appropriate Adults team recently attended an event at Suffolk Constabulary’s Headquarters in Martlesham, bringing together Independent Custody Visitors and other professionals, like our AAs, supporting people in police custody.

Four of our volunteers attended alongside Sue, our Appropriate Adult Officer. It was a great opportunity to share experiences, learn more about the challenges faced by vulnerable people and strengthen partnerships across policing, custody, health and education.

Sue said: “The day was really informative and lots of information was shared between services and the Police, helping us to continue improving the support we provide to vulnerable people.”

We’re proud to be part of these conversations and to keep learning together.

Meet Clare...

Clare is the Operational Coordinator for our Domestic Abuse Service, bringing a wealth of experience, knowledge and understanding to her role.

Domestic abuse continues to affect people across Suffolk every day and the work Clare and the team do remains as important as ever. They support people through incredibly difficult circumstances, helping them feel heard and to understand their options.

Clare and the rest of the team understand that no two situations are the same. Sometimes people need practical support, sometimes they need someone to listen and often it takes time, patience and trust before someone feels ready to make changes.

“I’m proud of the team I work alongside. They bring so much compassion, knowledge and commitment to what they do and no matter how challenging things can be, they always put the people we support at the heart of decisions.”

If you or someone you know is experiencing domestic abuse, support is available.
