Its been a school day for PCSO Ruth QUINBY as she has been at Firs Primary all day . The children in years 3 and 4 have been learning all about "Is Everyone a Friend?" The children have had an input around the subject of what is a stranger, benefits and downside of online gaming, and how to keep safe when online and outside with friends.
There were many brilliant answers from the children to the questions asked, lots of conversations about the topics, and interesting questions for Ruth !!

⚠️ Dangers of Entering Abandoned Buildings ⚠️

We have recently received a report of individuals entering an abandoned building in the local area.

While these locations may appear interesting to explore, abandoned buildings can pose serious risks to your safety. Hidden hazards can include unstable floors and roofs, exposed electrical wiring, sharp objects, broken glass, asbestos, hazardous substances, and unsecured shafts or basements. In many cases, emergency services may also have difficulty accessing those who become injured inside.

Entering derelict properties without permission may also constitute trespassing and could place individuals at risk of becoming involved in criminal activity or anti-social behaviour.

We would encourage parents and guardians to speak with young people about the dangers of entering vacant buildings and to remind them to stay away from sites that have been secured for public safety.

If you notice suspicious activity at a vacant property, or have concerns about people gaining access to abandoned buildings, please report it to Derbyshire Constabulary via our website, by calling 101, or 999 in an emergency.

Please help us keep our communities safe by sharing this message.

📍 Rykneld Park Patrols

Your local Safer Neighbourhood Team has been out on patrol in Rykneld Park, spending time engaging with members of the community and speaking with local dog walkers.

It was great to receive positive feedback from those we spoke with, and residents appreciated the visible police presence and the reassurance that regular patrols provide. These conversations are invaluable in helping us understand local concerns and maintain a safe and welcoming environment for everyone using the park.

We will continue to carry out regular patrols in the area, so if you see us out and about, please feel free to stop and have a chat.

⚠️ Scam Alert ⚠️

We have received reports of a potential scam operating in the area.

Individuals may knock on your door claiming they have lost their mobile phone and that the "Find My Phone" app is showing the device at your address. They may insist that their phone is inside your property and attempt to gain entry or pressure you into assisting them.

✅ If this happens:

• Do not allow anyone into your home unless you are satisfied with who they are and why they are there.
• Speak through a closed door or use a doorbell camera where possible.
• If you do not know the person, do not feel pressured to assist.
• If they become persistent or you feel threatened, call the police immediately.
• If a genuine phone has been lost, the owner can contact the police for advice rather than attempting to enter private property.

Please remember that mobile phone location services are not always accurate and can sometimes show an incorrect location.

If you have experienced a similar incident or have any information, please report it to us via 101 or online at www.derbyshire.police.uk. Always call 999 in an emergency.

🚓👮 Mini Police at Beckets School 👮🚓

Our Safer Neighbourhood Officers were pleased to complete another Mini Police session with the new recruits at Beckets School.

Last week, the officers received a warm welcome to Derbyshire Constabulary and were given an introduction to the Mini Police programme. They also got stuck into learning the phonetic alphabet, a key communication tool used by police officers every day.

This week, the students had the exciting opportunity to take a closer look at one of our police vehicles. They explored the equipment carried on board, learnt about how officers use the vehicle while on patrol, and asked some fantastic questions along the way.

It has been great to see the enthusiasm and engagement from all of the Mini Police officers so far. We look forward to working with them over the coming months as they continue to learn about policing, community safety and the important role they can play in their local community.

A big thank you to all the staff and pupils at Beckets School for their support and enthusiasm.

🚨 Shed Break-In - St Albans Road 🚨

We are appealing for residents to remain vigilant following a recent shed break-in on St Albans Road.

Offenders often target sheds and outbuildings looking for valuable items such as bicycles, power tools, gardening equipment, and other property that can be quickly sold on. We would like to remind everyone to review their security and take simple steps to help protect their belongings.
Crime Prevention Advice:

🔒 Always lock your shed, garage, and outbuildings with a good quality lock.
💡 Install sensor lighting and consider CCTV or a video doorbell covering entry points.
🚲 Secure valuable items such as bicycles and tools with additional chains or ground anchors where possible.
🏷️ Mark and register valuable property using a property marking scheme and keep a record of serial numbers.
🌳 Keep hedges and fencing maintained to reduce opportunities for offenders to hide.
🚪 Ensure side gates are locked and secure, particularly overnight.
👀 Report any suspicious activity, unknown vehicles, or individuals acting suspiciously in the area.

Together we can help keep our neighbourhood safe.
