Deadline of 24 October to have your say on U.K. Government new draft fire regulations for upholstered furniture.
The U.K. has the strictest fire regs when it comes to upholstered furniture, necessitating the use of toxic chemicals in top fabrics and fillings. This new legislation will affect EVERYONE, not just those of us in the industry. It will result in increased use of toxic chemicals in our furniture which are particularly hazardous to small children. There are much better, proven alternatives.
Can I ask you all to please take a look at the website below, go to the βadd your nameβ section and sign the open letter to the Government to let them know we don't want, or need, these chemicals in our homes.
Please share, the more signatures the better, deadline is 24th October.
Thank you. And for more info take a look at the posts & videos of some brilliant Upholsterers who are spearheading this campaign such as Vintique Upholstery
CFR campaign | Eco Chair
The Government acknowledges the harm to health and the environment of chemical flame retardants in furniture and has published a consultation on new draft regulations, the aim being to reduce toxic chemical flame retardant usage and retain fire safety.

I am hoping to run 4 x 6 week blocks between April - Oct so towards the end of the first block of classes, students will be given the option to sign up for the next block. Any spaces that become available at this point will be offered to those on the waiting list.
The syllabus is up to you - Students can bring their own pieces to work on (this will be limited to smaller, simpler pieces as it is a beginners class so I will discuss with you beforehand to advise you on what types of pieces will be suitable to work on) or I can provide students with the materials needed / source furniture for some beginner projects such as footstools / head-boards / dining chairs etc. Sewing projects such as scatter cushions, box cushions (not curtains/ blinds or loose covers) can also be covered in the class.

This was the final large-scale piece Iβll be doing for the foreseeable future as Bluebird Upholstery will now be a part-time venture for me, as I will be working full-time elsewhere.
Iβll still be doing customer commissions, but I will be limited to smaller /quicker pieces & also the turnaround time for jobs will be much slower.

Dining chairs re-covered in a printed velvet fabric supplied by my customer.
There are 10 dining chairs in total that my customer has been sourcing for a while. The chairs are different styles and eras, and all will have their seats re-covered in this striking fabric, which is a great way to bring different pieces together in a design scheme.
