🌹 It's London Open Gardens weekend!

Usually enjoyed only by our residents, our beautiful almshouse gardens will be open to visitors tomorrow, Sunday 7th June, for London Open Gardens between 11 and 3.

Sycamore House, Sycamore Gardens, W6 0AS
John Betts House, Rylett Road, W12 9NJ

Tickets are £5 cash on the door for entry to both gardens.

The residents will also be selling delicious home made cakes and luscious home grown plants. Cash only.

If you are a keen gardener, have never been to an almshouse before or just fancy a big slice of cake please come and join us! 🍰🪴

While many of the students at Hammersmith Academy don’t have their own garden, they do have access to the school’s. Every student spends time doing practical gardening activities each year, such as sowing seeds and watering crops. The school’s gardener, Sue Beenstock, says, “I want them to have a sense of wonder at how incredible nature is when they're planting and seeing things grow.”

Do you want to make a meaningful difference for the people of Hammersmith? We’re appointing a new Trustee, who will also join our Grants and Community Committee.

We’re particularly keen to hear from people with a strong connection to the area or lived experience of the challenges faced by our community. You do not need to have been a Trustee before as we’ll provide full training and support.

In honour of , we’re celebrating one of our residents, Lorraine. She volunteers for Hammersmith & Fulham Foodbank at St Simon’s Church. Lorraine told us, “You get to know the clients who come in regularly, and they get to know you. If you're not there, then they'll say, “Oh, we haven't seen you for a week or two. Were you away? Are you okay?” It really shows that you're making an impact on them and it makes you appreciate what you have yourself.”

Do you have time to help an older person feel less lonely? The Creighton Centre is recruiting volunteers to support people who are housebound. You could visit the person at home once a week, call them on the phone, or accompany them on walks.

“When I get on a bicycle, I leave my dementia monster at home.” For Brian CIC runs a dementia- and disability-inclusive service that enables participation in the all ability cycling hub in Little Wormwood Scrubs on a Friday.
