The Connection works with people towards a place to call home. Charity No. 1078201

Volunteers’ Week (1–7 June) is here and we wanted to take a moment to say a sincere thank you to the incredible volunteers who bring warmth, compassion and hope to The Connection every single day. 💙

From helping in the kitchen to supporting our community activities, our volunteers ensure that people feel valued, respected and supported when they need it most. Their contribution is at the heart of everything we do.

Volunteering with The Connection is not just about giving back — it’s about being part of something practical and immediate. Whether it’s serving a meal, offering a listening ear, or helping to create a safe and welcoming space, every action makes a difference.

These moments may seem small, but they can restore dignity, build trust, and remind someone that they are not alone.

We couldn’t do what we do without the commitment and generosity of our volunteers. We are truly grateful.

has been activated in London.

☀️ Hot weather can be deadly if you’re homeless.

While many of us are enjoying the sunshine, people sleeping rough are at serious risk. Dehydration, sunburn and heatstroke can all be life-threatening—and unlike in winter, there aren’t many emergency measures in place when the temperature rises.

But we’re stepping in.

🧴 Our team is out on the streets handing out water, suncream and light clothing.
🏠 We’re keeping our day centre open longer to offer shade and rest.
🛏️ We’re also opening up overnight spaces to keep people safe.

Last summer, our teams helped 386 people stay safe and well during the hottest months of the year. This summer, with your support, we can reach even more.

💙 Every bit of support makes a difference—and could help save a life this summer.

Finding somewhere to call home 19/05/2026

🏠 Finding Somewhere to Call Home 🏠

Helping people access safe, suitable accommodation is a vital part of what we do at The Connection.

Our team supports people every step of the way — from finding the right housing, applying, and moving in, to settling into their new place and working towards independence.

But the challenge is huge: the number of people sleeping rough in Westminster remains high and is increasing significantly every year, while many housing offers still don’t meet people’s needs.

That’s why we’re working hard to increase and improve accommodation options by building stronger partnerships and creating new pathways into housing that lasts.

👉 Together, we can help more people find a place to call home.

Finding somewhere to call home Helping people to find somewhere to call home is a vital part of what we do. This year, 178 people moved into accommodation with our support.

It might not be the most glamorous topic but setting and attending appointments are key to recovering from homelessness.

Our team get to know people, gains their trust and supports them at appointments for emotional support and to advocate on their behalf.

Where possible, we also try to bring appointments into our day centre or even at their usual sleeping spot if they prefer.

How do you feel after missing a meal?

Probably irritated, uncomfortable, tired or worse. Now imagine missing multiple meals a day, week after week.

Could you sort out a new home, benefit applications and more in this position?

Simply put, you’re not you when you’re hungry.

A meal can restore your energy and help you feel ready to take on the day.

That's why, at our day centre, we offer a range of meals daily. It may seem small but it's often the first step on the journey home.

What does safety really mean for a woman leaving a violent relationship?

For Lisa, it meant 24/7 staff. A psychologist. Drug and alcohol support. A community of women who understand.

After years of sleeping on the streets and living in unsafe accommodation, St Martin's House gave her something she'd never had — a genuinely safe, women-only home.

"When you first come here, you feel like you can't do anything, you can't ever get somewhere. But you can."

Lisa has her family back. She's making progress every day. And she's dreaming of a future where more women can access what she's found.
