As a Doula, I support women and couples through pregnancy and birth. I aim to be a calming voice and presence to create a positive birth experience. Nonsense!

What is a Doula? A Doula is a person that supports women and couples through pregnancy and birth. At a time when midwives are often stretched running between various women giving birth, a Doula is a calming constant presence from beginning to end. She becomes the labouring woman's advocate and voice, and protects her from all surrounding noise and chaos at a time when she needs to focus most in a

Randle - ‘Birth Painting’ This wonderful painting actually looks like a metal sculpture of the female pregnant body - with all the curves and flow of the human body. It actually makes me think of fallopian tubes, the umbilical cord and the baby safely protected being wrapped and protected with amniotic fluid - the incredible elements of nature that help grow and nurture a living being

Mujica - “Multitasking” - I bet so many women can relate to this painting - the incredible job we do as mothers multitasking getting up and ready for work or play whilst breastfeeding our babies/toddlers. Either with ease or under really fraught emotions! Kudos to all the multitaskers out there 💪

Kei Wo - “Waiting for Birth Sculpture” - the artist is a Singapore based sculptor who specializes in contemporary, abstract and geometric stainless steel works. This fantastic sculpture brilliantly illustrates and captures a newborn baby curled up in position and waiting to be born. You can almost feel the pressure being pushed onto the mother’s pelvis by this giant baby! That wait for the start of labour can be both incredibly exciting and full of anxiety. Head down is the optimum position for birth and the baby will generally decide when’s the time to make their exit! They dictate the terms from within!

Sultana - “Letter to my Unborn Child” - this Bangladeshi/British artist is famous for using her thumbprints and own hair to create her artwork. In the artist’s words….. “New life grows inside of the womb of a mother and later born as a child. My creations are my children, expanding outside my body, nourished by love and imagination. I want to communicate with my unborn child; they are as accurate as the biological children I might have.” With the vibrant colour red depicting blood, her thumbprints are mimicking the explosion of cells creating a nucleus of what will turn into life. The miracle of Birth! ❤️

Kienberger - “Together Sculpture” This image caught my eye for so many reasons - and has so many contrasting features. First - I absolutely love the contrast of the colour of the natural wood sculpture against the backdrop of the vibrant green of the grass. Second - I love how the mother is looking intently straight ahead contrasting her child looking sideways. As a protective mother faces her challenges head on allowing her child to look elsewhere without dealing with life’s complications. And third - natural wood has stiffness and solidity and splinters - whilst grass has ebb and flow. It can move with the wind and allow flowers, bees and insects to grow within and from it. Just beautiful.

unknown - On Holocaust Rememberance Day - we remember the millions of innocent children stripped of their names, families and futures. Just because they were Jews, Gypsies or ‘unwanted’. Look at their faces. Each one of them. And remember them

Zernitsky - ‘Childbirth’ In what feels like a very fractured world, the cocoon of the womb seems like an inviting safe space. A place of quiet, growth, simplicity, darkness and light, innocence, nourishment and comfort. The development of an embryo to a fetus is sensational - a magical change that the body enables to create and form a living soul

@ Anna Rajasekharan - I went to see a wonderful client today who I have had the privilege of working with before. She’s expecting her second baby and I’m always super excited when they tell me they can’t birth without me even second time round! Anyway - we discussed the effect her last pregnancy had on her belly - how her stomach is flabby and with all the exercise she has time for, it just doesn’t shift. It’s upsetting and frustrating for her - and she doesn’t like herself when she looks in the mirror. Now she’s even more worried that it will get worse after baby number 2. But with all that concern, she brightly and positively said she didn’t hesitate to do it again - because of the joy her child has brought her and her partner. Pregnancy and birth is tough on the body - it can leave physical (as well as emotional) scars in various ways and it’s so important to recognize and validate them. Kudos to all the mums out there 🤍

I came across this today and absolutely love it!! What a fantastic image! This 1946 photograph captures a dramatic moment of surprise before the advent of routine prenatal ultrasounds. In the image, a group of nurses presents triplets to their father for the first time through a nursery window, with the father, Arris Poulos feigning shock.
Without modern imaging to predict multiple births, such arrivals were often unexpected revelations!! How the world of imagery and ultrasound has come on leaps and bounds! 💚 #1946
