The team were paged at 1504 Friday to a report of a rucksack and clothing found on Little Perhaver beach at Gorran Haven.
The person who called 999 said they had been there for at least 30 mins, no one had been near the items and they couldn’t see anyone in the water.
We conducted a hasty search of the beach and surrounding area. We were just about to push further afield and request additional support from the lifeboat and potentially the helicopter when a person was seen swimming around the headland from the direction of Great Perhaver.
Once they reached dry land we confirmed that the items belonged to that person and that there was no-one else in the water.
A good result as everyone went home safely. The person who called 999 did the right thing in raising their concern.
If you’re going in to the water make sure you’re prepared, ideally don’t go in alone and make sure someone ashore knows where you are and what time you’ll be back.
We remain on call 24 hours a day to respond to emergencies on the coast.
