💜 Creativity, teamwork and making a difference! 💜

A group of our young Vision Impairment (VI) learners have been busy working towards their VICTA Create Badge with the fantastic support of Deb.

Our learners enjoyed a range of creative activities, including decorating Christmas tree ornaments and designing colourful pebbles. They also had a special visit from Alley at the Canal Trust, who helped them take on an exciting challenge - creating ideas for a sensory trail at the Pontypool Canal Basin.

It was wonderful to see their creativity, problem-solving skills and enthusiasm shine through as they explored ways to make outdoor spaces more engaging and accessible for everyone.

Well done to all of our young learners for their hard work and fantastic ideas! 🌟

👋 Give us a wave! 👋

Social media visibility matters because it helps more people discover the support, opportunities, and information available for children and young people with sensory and communication needs.

In many ways, it’s just like the children and families we support. Being seen, heard, and included makes all the difference. 💜

If you’re seeing this post, give us a 👋 in the comments, leave a like, or share this post to help boost our visibility and reach more families who may need us.

🎃👻 Boo! October Half Term is the Perfect Time to Boost Speech, Language and Communication Skills! 👻🎃

With spooky season in full swing, October half term is a fantastic opportunity to have some fun while helping children develop their speech, language and communication skills. 💬✨

There are lots of simple ways to encourage communication at home:

🎃 Chat about pumpkins, costumes and favourite spooky decorations
👻 Read Halloween stories together and predict what might happen next
🕸️ Go on an autumn walk and discover new seasonal words
🍬 Play games that encourage listening, turn-taking and conversation
🧙 Create your own spooky stories filled with witches, ghosts and magical adventures
🍭 Talk about your favourite trick-or-treat treats and describe their colours, tastes and textures

Every "boo!", question, story and conversation helps children build vocabulary, confidence and communication skills.

So this half term, carve out some time to talk, listen, play and connect. The simplest moments can make a big difference! 🎃💜

🎄❄️ Get Creative with VICTA’s Christmas Decoration Competition! ❄️🎄

Calling all children and young people with a vision impairment, as well as schools and organisations that support them!

This year’s theme is The Snowman by Raymond Briggs, and we'd love to see your homemade decorations inspired by this beloved festive story. Why not add a sensory twist with something tactile, a Christmas scent, jingling bells, or another creative feature to make your decoration extra special?

✨ Every child who enters will receive a festive treat from VICTA, and there are some fantastic prizes to be won!

Don't feel like following the theme? That's absolutely fine too. We welcome all creative ideas, whether you incorporate braille, the VICTA rainbow, recycled materials, or a completely unique design. The most important thing is to have fun and let your imagination shine.

📚 The competition also links beautifully with VICTA's Beyond the Book project, encouraging children and young people to explore stories through reading, listening, and creative activities.

🌟 Remember, your decoration doesn't need to be expensive. Salt dough, foil, recycled cards, and everyday craft materials can create something truly magical.

📅 For full competition details and how to enter, follow the link below.
