Our volunteer crew were out training in challenging conditions this morning as Storm Boelo moved through the area 💨

Training in all sorts of conditions helps our crew keep their skills sharp and ready for when they’re needed.

The Met Office issued a yellow weather warning with winds forecast to reach more than 70mph in coastal locations and waterways along the south east coast of England.

The expected strong winds also bring heavy rain posing a safety risk to those visiting the coast and watersides. The RNLI, is encouraging people to exercise extreme caution if visiting the shoreline, especially along exposed cliffs, seafronts and piers.

Our crew were treated to a special sight on Sunday as the Waverley steamed along the river on her Thames season finale.

Built in 1946, Waverley is the world’s last seagoing paddle steamer. Her steam engine turns the large paddle wheels on either side, driving her through the water.

She set off from Rochester, calling at Whitstable, Southend Pier and Gravesend before continuing towards Tower Bridge. A lovely glimpse of maritime history for our crew! ⚓️

A special Sunday out for our volunteer crew 🎨🌊

Our crew aboard Judith Copping Joyce made a special detour to Minster beach on Sunday to say thank you to mother-and-daughter artists Julie Bradshaw-Drury and Anna Piles, who included our all-weather lifeboat in their fantastic new mural on The Leas 💙

The mural celebrates the Isle of Sheppey and its coastline, featuring plenty of familiar sights, including our Shannon-class lifeboat, complete with her operational number 13-38.

Sheerness RNLI Lifeboat Operations Manager, Alan, said: “The mural is lovely. The lifeboats and our volunteer crew are a big part of life around Sheppey, so it means a lot to see the RNLI included in artwork celebrating the island and its coastline.

“We were really pleased to be able to bring the lifeboat in and thank Julie and Anna in person for including us.”

After visiting Minster, the crew continued to Crundalls Wharf in Queenborough to attend the Blessing of the Waters, organised by Holy Trinity Church Queenborough.

The service brought the community together to give thanks and pray for all those whose lives and livelihoods depend upon the water, with a collection also held in aid of the Fishermen’s Mission.

A lovely afternoon celebrating our island, its waters and the community we’re proud to be part of 🌊💙
