🎉 A HUGE CONGRATULATIONS TO OUR £1,000 JACKPOT WINNER!🎉

We’re absolutely delighted to announce that Jo, one of our fantastic Giant Cash Bonanza subscribers has scooped the £1,000 jackpot! 🥳💷

When we asked how she felt about her amazing win, she told us:

"I was totally amazed to win the £1,000… still reeling from the shock of winning!" 😲

She’s not quite decided what to spend her winnings on yet — but we reckon she deserves to treat herself! 🎁

What makes this win even more special is hearing why she supports Scarborough & Ryedale Mountain Rescue Team. ❤️

She told us that the work our volunteers do is “absolutely vital and such a worthwhile and lifesaving selfless act” and that she’s just pleased to support the team.

Every Giant Cash Bonanza subscription helps support our volunteer team and the lifesaving work they carry out across our local communities. Wins like this are fantastic, and the support behind them really does make a difference.

Congratulations once again Jo on your brilliant win, and a massive thank you for supporting our team!👏

⛰️ MOUNTAIN RESCUE AWARENESS DAY | 25 OCTOBER 🚨

When the clocks go back and the days get shorter, it’s a timely reminder of the people who are ready to help when things don’t go to plan outdoors.

Today, we’re celebrating the volunteers of Scarborough & Ryedale Mountain Rescue Team — and mountain rescue teams across the country and the rest of the world. 💚

Behind every callout are ordinary people giving up their time, leaving their families, putting work on hold and heading out in all weathers to help someone they may never have met before.

From searching the moors and supporting missing-person searches to providing casualty care in challenging conditions, our volunteers are ready to respond when they’re needed.

But Mountain Rescue Awareness Day is about more than recognising our teams. It’s also about helping everyone enjoy the outdoors safely.

🍂 Heading out this autumn or winter? Remember to:

🔦 Carry a torch — and a spare.
🌦️ Check the forecast before you leave.
🥾 Take suitable clothing, footwear and equipment.
🗺️ Plan your route and allow plenty of time to get back before dark.
🔋 Keep your phone charged and take a power bank.
↩️ Be prepared to turn back if conditions change.

And remember, turning back isn't giving up. A shorter walk or a change of plan can be the smartest decision of the day.

Mountain rescue is powered by volunteers and supported by our community. Every share, donation and word of support helps us continue to be there when we're needed.

From all of us at SRMRT, thank you to everyone who supports what we do. 💚

🌙🍂 DARKER NIGHTS ARE HERE… AND YOUR PHONE TORCH ISN’T A PLAN! 🔦

The nights are drawing in, the mud is getting muddier, and that lovely afternoon walk can turn into an episode of “Where on earth has the path gone?!” surprisingly quickly.

During Autumn and Winter, we’d like to remind everyone to stay safe when exploring the North Yorkshire Moors, our beautiful coastline and the surrounding countryside.

A few simple things can make all the difference… and might save you from an unexpected meeting with our volunteers!

🔦 Take a proper torch or headtorch. Your phone torch is great for finding your keys, not so great for navigating three miles of pitch black moorland with 8% battery remaining.

🌦️ Check the weather forecast. “It looked alright when I left” isn't much use when you're being blown sideways in the rain!

🥾 Plan your route. That shortcut across the moor might look tempting, but in the dark, every sheep track starts looking like the right one.

📱 Keep your phone charged. A power bank could be the difference between calling for help and staring sadly at a black screen.

🧥 Dress for the conditions. Pack warm layers and waterproofs. The weather doesn't care that your jacket looked fine in the car park.

⏰ Allow plenty of time. Sunset waits for nobody, and it certainly won't wait while you debate which direction the car park is in.

👋 Tell someone where you're going. Let them know your route and expected return time. “Going for a quick walk” isn't a particularly useful search briefing!

🚨 If you get into difficulty in the hills or countryside, call 999 and ask for Police, then Mountain Rescue. Give your location as accurately as possible and follow the call handler's instructions.

Our volunteers are always ready to help when they're needed, but we'd much rather you enjoy a safe adventure, and meet you at an event than having to meet us under the less than ideal circumstances of a rescue!

💚 Be prepared, look after each other, and remember: getting home with muddy boots is better than becoming tonight's callout.

Stay safe out there!

🌊 Water Training at Goathland 🌊

Last week, our team carried out a water training exercise near Goathland Railway Station, focusing on the safe recovery of a casualty from the river back to land.

The scenario involved recovering a body from the water and navigating the challenging terrain of slippery rocks and riverbanks. The team used an evacuation sled to safely move the casualty back up to dry land, putting their skills, teamwork and equipment into practice.

Training in these challenging environments helps ensure our volunteers are prepared to respond safely and effectively when called upon to assist in real incidents.

A big thank you to all our volunteers who took part and continue to dedicate their time to keeping their skills sharp. 💚

💚 A HUGE THANK YOU! £885 RAISED FOR SRMRT! 💚

We’d like to say a massive thank you to Angela and Brit, two of our wonderful supporters who organised a bingo night at Norton Bowling Club in aid of Scarborough & Ryedale Mountain Rescue Team. 👏

Thanks to their hard work and generosity, along with everyone who came along, joined in the fun and supported the event, an incredible £885 was raised! 🎉

Every penny will help us continue our vital work, supporting our volunteer team and helping us respond when people find themselves in difficulty across our local area. 🏔️🚑

We’re incredibly grateful to Angela and Brit for putting the event together, and to everyone who attended, bought raffle tickets, enjoyed the cakes and helped make the evening such a success.

It’s support like this from our local community that makes such a difference to our team.

Thank you all so much! ❤️

🚑⛰️ Working together to make a difference

Last Thursday we welcomed 12 staff from Yorkshire Ambulance Service NHS Trust to Scarborough & Ryedale Mountain Rescue Team for an investment CPD day.

The day provided an opportunity to share knowledge, experience and skills between our two services, covering:

🔹 The history of Mountain Rescue
🔹 Our operations and working alongside ambulance crews
🔹 Mountain Rescue training and medical skills
🔹 Safe handling and use of our equipment
🔹 Working safely around rope systems
🔹 Working safely in a water environment

There was also plenty of valuable professional discussion between our team and YAS crews about how we can work effectively together in challenging environments and provide the best possible care for casualties.

Days like this are a great reminder that effective multi-agency working is built on understanding each other’s roles, sharing knowledge and training together.

A big thank you to everyone from YAS who joined us — we look forward to continuing to work together. 👏

💚 Thank you, Jon 💚

Last week, at our team meeting, we said a very fond farewell to Jon, who is standing down from Scarborough & Ryedale Mountain Rescue Team after many years of dedicated service.

Jon has given an enormous amount to the team over the years, including serving as our Chair for five years. His leadership has helped shape the team into what it is today, and we’re incredibly grateful for everything he has done.

But being part of Mountain Rescue is about much more than callouts, meetings and training. Over the years, Jon has made great friends within the team and has been a valued part of the Moorjock family. He will be sorely missed by everyone.

Jon is stepping back so he can focus on his family, and support his son with his cycling career.

From all of us at SRMRT, thank you, Jon, for your commitment, leadership, friendship and years of service.

We wish Jon and his family all the very best for the future — and we're sure this isn't the last we'll see of him! 💚⛰️
