🎃 Buying your kids’ Halloween costumes on an online marketplace? Over 90% of those tested FAIL UK safety standards.
A Chartered Trading Standards Institute (CTSI) investigation found that 10 of 11 costumes bought from third-party sellers on OnBuy, Amazon, eBay, AliExpress, Shein and TikTok Shop were non-compliant, with missing safety warnings, labels and traceability information.

Before you buy:
✅ Choose reputable retailers or UK-based sellers
✅ Check for a UKCA or CE mark and a UK manufacturer or importer’s name and address
✅ Read all the safety information on the label and in the listing
✅ Use battery-operated candles or glow sticks, never naked flames

When you’re stocking up on treats this Halloween please remember that some sweets can be dangerous for little ones.

Lollipops, hard sweets and mini eggs in particular can pose a serious choking risk. They’re the perfect size to completely block a child’s airway. So please pick another treat.

While many enjoy Bonfire Night, fireworks can be harmful if used incorrectly. To help keep everyone safe firework restrictions are in place. Remember, it’s illegal to provide a firework to someone under the age of 18, with the exception of F1 fireworks like sparklers.

So, please check the button battery compartments are secure to prevent children from gaining access. If not, keep them well out of reach of young children.

Fireworks are now on sale until November 10th.

Stay safe this fireworks season.

Fireworks are now on sale from licensed retailers who can only sell, supply or deliver them to the public between 07:00 and 18:00.

With the exception of November 5th, fireworks may only be let off between 18:00 and 23:00.

It is illegal to set off fireworks in public streets, parks, or spaces.

We would urge all businesses and residents to be as safe as possible and encourage people to attend organised displays by professional organisers.
