Community Hub to Remain at the Heart of Billingham Following Café Closure.
Billingham Town Council would like to inform residents that the café within the Community Hub in John Whitehead Park will close on Friday 6th November 2026.
While the café will no longer be operating, the Council is keen to reassure residents that the Community Hub itself will remain open and continue to serve as an important space for local people. A wide range of activities, support groups and community services will continue to be delivered from the hub, helping to bring people together, reduce isolation and support residents' wellbeing.
Pantry in the Park will also continue to operate from the hub, providing valuable support to local families and individuals.
The Council recognises the affection many residents have for the café and appreciates the role it has played in the life of the park. As the Council looks to the future of the building, its priority is to ensure the Community Hub continues to meet the needs of local people while delivering value for money for taxpayers.
To help shape that future, Billingham Town Council will soon launch a consultation with residents, community groups and local organisations to understand what they would like to see delivered from the Community Hub. The feedback received will help inform future plans and ensure the facility remains a thriving and sustainable community asset for years to come.
Cllr Helen Atkinson, Chairman of Billingham Town Council, said:
"We know many residents will be disappointed to hear that the café is closing. Like many people in Billingham, I've seen first-hand how important the Community Hub has become as a place where people can come together, make connections and access support when they need it.
"I want to reassure everyone that the hub is very much here to stay. Our activities, support groups and Pantry in the Park will continue, and we remain committed to making sure this space serves the needs of our community.
"Over the coming months, we'll be asking residents what they would like to see from the hub in the future. This is an opportunity for local people to help shape its next chapter. We want to listen, learn and work together to ensure the Community Hub continues to be a welcoming, valuable and vibrant asset for Billingham, while also ensuring we manage public funds responsibly."
Further information about the forthcoming consultation will be shared through the Council's website and social media channels in the coming weeks.
