History comes alive when you learn it with your hands.

Students from Kurukshetra Training Centre visited Rajkot Darbargadh Museum for a guided preview of the history of battles and martial traditions of Saurashtra–Kathiawar, followed by a traditional weapons demonstration.

The demonstration featured the Talwar, Lakdi, Bhala, Surul, Dand Patta, Chakra and Golo— each reflecting different forms of combat, training, skill and technique.

For a younger generation, learning how these traditional weapons were handled and used is a way of understanding the knowledge and discipline behind them, rather than seeing them simply as objects of the past.

This Gandhi Jayanti, we look back at a moment from Rajkot’s history which was largely associated with the life of Mahatma Gandhi on several occasions.

This historic photograph, taken in 1939 at the Ranjit Vilas Palace, captures a gathering with presence of Mahatma Gandhi alongside Late H.H. Thakore Saheb Dharmendrasinhji of Rajkot, Kasturba Gandhi, Maharaja Kumar Pradyumnasinhji and members of the Rajkot State administration and community.

Mahatma Gandhi was among the many distinguished guests who visited Rajkot. The 'Guest House' at the Rajkot Darbargadh complex, where dignitaries were once hosted, has been now named 'Gandhi Bhavan' as a tribute to Gandhiji's association with Rajkot.

A glimpse of our recent Morning at the Museum, filled with heritage, craft and good company.

Rajkot Darbargadh was glad to welcome a wonderful group of women with Women only Community . The visit was made special by the gracious presence of Rajkumari Mridulakumariji and Nirali Oza.

A guided museum preview, conversations around Rajkot’s heritage, and a hands-on craft activity by The Happy Heart Club offered a chance to slow down and experience the city through a different lens.

At Rajkot Darbargadh, we hope to bring the city’s rich history closer to contemporary audiences through experiences that make heritage accessible & engaging.

Before words travelled in seconds, there was the letter.

Across the archives of Darbargadh lie handwritten letters exchanged between rulers, government officials and royal families—each offering a glimpse into the people, relationships and events that shaped another time.

But a letter was more than a record of history. It carried a person’s handwriting, their words, their thoughts—and the emotion of waiting for a reply.

Today, these letters are preserved at the museum, where you can discover their stories for yourself.

ઠાકોર સાહેબશ્રી બાવાજીરાજ મહેરામણજીની ૧૭૦મી જન્મજયંતિ નિમિત્તે, રાજકોટ રાજ્યના પાયામાં મહત્વનું યોગદાન આપનાર એક દીર્ઘદ્રષ્ટા શાસકને સ્મરીએ.

રાજકોટના ૧૨મા ઠાકોર સાહેબ શ્રી બાવાજીરાજ મહેરામણજીનો જન્મ ૩૦ ઓગસ્ટ, ૧૮૫૬ના રોજ થયો હતો. તેમના શાસનકાળ (૧૮૬૨–૧૮૯૦)દરમિયાન રાજકોટ રાજ્યએ વહીવટ, શિક્ષણ, આરોગ્ય અને પ્રજાકલ્યાણ સહિત વિવિધ ક્ષેત્રોમાં પ્રગતિના મહત્વપૂર્ણ પગલાં ભર્યાં.

વહીવટમાં યોગ્ય અને લાયક વ્યક્તિઓની નિમણૂક દ્વારા તેમણે રાજ્યના વિકાસને નવી દિશા આપી. તેમના કાર્યકાળ દરમિયાન દિવાન કરમચંદ ઉત્તમચંદ ગાંધી, મહાત્મા ગાંધીના પિતાશ્રી, તથા પ્રસિદ્ધ સુધારાવાદી કરસનદાસ મૂળજીનો સહયોગ મળ્યો.

શિક્ષણના ક્ષેત્રમાં પુરુષ શિક્ષકોને તાલીમ આપવા માટે હંટર ટ્રેનિંગ કોલેજની સ્થાપના કરવામાં આવી. આરોગ્યક્ષેત્રે ૧૮૮૩માં વેસ્ટ હોસ્પિટલનું નિર્માણ થયું, જેનું નામ તે સમયના રાજકોટના પોલિટિકલ એજન્ટ ઈ. ડબલ્યુ. વેસ્ટના નામ પરથી રાખવામાં આવ્યું હતું.

રાજ્ય અને પ્રજાના હિતને કેન્દ્રમાં રાખી શિક્ષણ, આરોગ્ય, વહીવટ અને જાહેર કાર્યોમાં લેવાયેલા આ નિર્ણયો શ્રી બાવાજીરાજની દીર્ઘદ્રષ્ટિ અને રાજકોટના વિકાસ પ્રત્યેની તેમની પ્રતિબદ્ધતાના સાક્ષી છે.

ઠાકોર સાહેબશ્રી બાવાજીરાજ મહેરામણજીની ૧૭૦મી જન્મજયંતિ નિમિત્તે તેમને ભાવાંજલિ.



ઠાકોર સાહેબ શ્રી બાવાજીરાજ દ્વારા સ્થાપિત વેસ્ટ હોસ્પિટલનું અભિલેખીય ચિત્ર, જેનું નામ તે સમયના રાજકોટના પોલિટિકલ એજન્ટ શ્રી ઈ.ડબલ્યુ.વેસ્ટના નામ પરથી રાખવામાં આવ્યું હતું.

This International Dog Day, we’re taking you along for a day out with some very curious creatures!

Meet our resident ambassadors—Bawri aka Whiney and Mona, alongside Faujdar, Baa and Kumari. They’re very much part of the museum’s daily life, so when you visit, there’s a good chance they might greet you before anyone else does!

It was a pleasure to welcome Kebab, Baisa, Wazir, Damascus and Dagha to the museum for their own little day out.

At Darbargadh, the care extends beyond the pet-friends. The museum also looks after the stray dogs who call the complex home—because every furry friend deserves food, care, safety and a lot of affection.

This International Dog Day, take a moment to look around your own neighbourhood. Feed a stray, offer some water, give them a little space and kindness—or, if they’re feeling friendly, make a new friend.

After all, some of the best museum guides have four paws. 🐾

Today, the courtyards of Rajkot’s royal heritage came alive with the valiant neighs of Kathiawari horses.

In celebration of the birthday of Yuvrani Saheb Shivatmikadeviji, & observance of World Palace Day, the Heritage Ride brought together the riders of Halar Club, students, and their families for a memorable equestrian journey through the historic heart of Rajkot.

The ride began with the divine blessings of Maa Ashapura, continued through the majestic Ranjit Villas Palace to the heritage streets of Bedi Naka, and culminated at the upcoming Rajkot Darbargadh Museum.

Organised in collaboration with Halar Club and La Patisserie 20, the Heritage Ride was an invitation to experience Rajkot’s history, culture, and architectural heritage from a unique perspective.

Here’s a glimpse of an unforgettable morning shared with our esteemed guests, heritage enthusiasts, and delightful refreshments.
