Child Welfare Scheme Nepal (CWSN) CWSN aims to improve the lives of poor and marginalised children and youth in Nepal through improved

CWSN (Child Welfare Scheme Nepal) is a child-centred organisation located in Pokhara, Nepal. It aims to improve the lives of the most poor and marginalised children and young people in Nepal through improved health, education and social opportunities. We also work with families and communities in order to improve the lives of their children and young people. We operate mainly at the grassroots level with the active participation of disadvantaged children and young people, their families and their communities in order to help them to achieve lasting change, recognising that their involvement in the work at every level (project research, design, management, monitoring and evaluation) is crucial to their own development. We also advocate on behalf of our target groups at a district, regional and national level and our ethos is strongly driven by Child Rights.

CWSN successfully conducted a three-day workshop on Child Rights and the Importance of Community Ownership from 30 October to 1 November 2026 at Kalabang Community Homestay, Pokhara-22, Kaski. The workshop covered child rights, child protection, community ownership, and sustainable community development through expert sessions, group discussions, case studies, and experience sharing.
Participants also visited Bhagawati Basic School, Kalabang, to learn about its community-led initiatives. Once challenged by low student enrollment, the school is now providing free education, including English-medium classes, with strong community support. Students in Grades 7, 8, and 9 also participate in practical agricultural activities, such as coffee cultivation, gaining valuable vocational skills alongside formal education.
The school served as an inspiring example of community ownership, collective responsibility, and locally driven solutions for sustainable development. # Shristijoshi
