𝙇𝙞𝙠𝙖, 𝙂𝙖𝙂𝘼𝘽-𝙖𝙮𝙖𝙣 𝙆𝙞𝙩𝙖! 🌟

Every March 14, we commemorate the birth of Gabriel Adriano Bernardo, a distinguished Filipino scholar remembered as the Father of Philippine Librarianship. Born in Malolos, Bulacan in 1891, Bernardo devoted his life to the pursuit of knowledge and the advancement of libraries in the Philippines. His academic journey led him to the University of the Philippines, where he studied and later served, helping build one of the country’s most important academic library systems. Through his dedication to books, scholarship, and public service, Bernardo became a guiding figure in shaping the profession of librarianship in the country.

Manong GAB believed that libraries were more than repositories of books—they were living centers of learning and intellectual growth. He worked tirelessly to organize collections, promote bibliographic research, and train future librarians who would continue the mission of preserving knowledge. His leadership strengthened the culture of reading and scholarship in Philippine academia, influencing generations of educators, students, and information professionals.

Today, his legacy continues to inspire librarians and scholars who see libraries as gateways to discovery and enlightenment. On this day, we remember not only his achievements but also the ideals he championed: dedication to learning, service to the community, and the preservation of knowledge

Ngayon, ika-14 ng Marso, ginugunita si Prop. Gabriel A. Bernardo sa kanyang ika-135 kaarawan. Ama ng Disiplina ng Pag-aaklatan sa bansa, si Bernardo ay isa sa unang limang nagsipagtapos sa Bulacan High School, ngayon ay Marcelo H. Del Pilar National High School, noong 1909.

Ako, ang nakalagda na Kura Paroko ng Barasoain, Lalawigan ng Bulacán, ay taimtim na nagbinyag at naglagay ng mga Banal na Langis at Krisma sa simbahang nasa aking pangangasiwa sa isang sanggol na limang araw pa lamang na ipinanganak, na pinangalanang Gabriel, lehitimong anak ng lehitimong pagsasama nina Mauricio Bernardo at Engracia Adriano, mga taga-bayang ito, mula sa barangay, bilang 16.

Ang kanyang mga lolo’t lola sa ama ay sina Gregorio at Toribia Roque, at ang kanyang mga lolo’t lola sa ina ay sina Severo at Patricia Santiago.

Ang kanyang ninong ay si Juan Santiago, may-asawa at taga-bayang ito rin, na pinaalalahanan tungkol sa ugnayang espiritwal at sa mga tungkuling kanyang tinanggap.

At bilang patunay nito, ako ay lumagda.
