The National Meat Inspection Service (NMIS), led by Officer-in-Charge, Executive Director Dr. Fernando N. Lontoc, joined key stakeholders at the press conference today, May 6, 2026, at the DA Conference Room, Quezon City, for the upcoming Livestock and Aquaculture Philippines 2026 on June 24- 26, 2026, at the World Trade Center, Pasay City.
Organized by Ms. Rungphech Chitanuwat of Informa Markets, the press conference brought together leaders from the Department of Agriculture, including Assistant Secretary Michael De Joya Garcia and Assistant Secretary Dr. Benjamin Albarece, to highlight the critical role of livestock and aquaculture in ensuring a stable, safe, and sustainable food supply for the Filipino people.
At the core of the discussions was a shared goal: to increase local production while making meat more affordable and accessible through innovation, sustainability, and strengthened food safety systems. Livestock producers were recognized as the backbone of the countryโs food supply, reflecting the resilience, dedication, and hard work of Filipino farmers.
Assistant Secretary Garcia emphasized the importance of biosecurity measures, responsive government programs, and science-based policies to safeguard animal health and public welfare, in line with the One Health approach. Meanwhile, Assistant Secretary Albarece highlighted key challenges facing the sector, including global supply chain disruptionsโsuch as the ongoing conflict in Iranโand the effects of El Niรฑo, stressing the need for adaptive and forward-looking strategies.
The upcoming expo aims to serve as a dynamic platform for technology transfer, knowledge exchange, and industry collaboration. Participants can look forward to:
โข Live demonstrations and sales of modern machinery and equipment
โข Technical workshops on livestock and aquaculture production
โข Expert-led discussions on best practices and emerging technologies
These initiatives are designed to address one of the sectorโs primary challenges: increasing the adoption of technology and sustainable practices among farmers.
More than just an exhibition, the event seeks to deliver tangible outcomesโfrom improved farming practices to stronger industry linkagesโby connecting local stakeholders with global experts and innovators.
NMIS reaffirms its commitment to supporting initiatives that enhance food safety, boost productivity, and promote a resilient and sustainable livestock and aquaculture industry in the Philippines.
Stay tuned for more updates and join us on June 24โ26, 2026, at the World Trade Center in Pasay City.

The National Meat Inspection Service (NMIS) successfully conducted the Plant Operation Standards and Monitoring (POSM) Performance Review and Target Setting last April 27-29, 2026, at the Forest Crest Nature Hotel and Resort, Nasugbu, Batangas.
The three-day activity, led by the Plant Operation Standards and Monitoring Division (POSMD), was attended by the POSMS Focal Persons and representatives of the NMIS Regional Technical Operation Centers (RTOCs). The Officer-In-Charge, Executive Director, Dr. Fernando N. Lontoc, inspired the group with his opening message and emphasized the need to improve the meat inspection service to be on par with modern international practices. Meat inspection services, along with enforcement and consumer advocacy, are highlighted as the agencyโs priority programs to ensure meat safety and quality for consumers.
The activity served as an essential venue to take a look into the agencyโs strengths, identify areas for improvement, and develop activities to strengthen plant operations and meat inspection. It provided a platform to harmonize plant operation programs, strengthen coordination across the different regional offices, and bridge stakeholders' needs in response to our volatile, uncertain, complex, and ambiguous (VUCA) environment. Through this initiative, NMIS reaffirms its commitment to uplift public service and ensure the continuous delivery of safe and quality meat for all.
