To our dear taxpayers who frequently ask about the SEF they are paying on their real property taxes, please read the information below.

โญโญSPECIAL EDUCATION FUNDโญโญ

What is SPECIAL EDUCATION FUND?

Section 309 of Republic Act No. 7160, otherwise known as the Local Government Code of 1991 provides for the establishment of a Special Education Fund (SEF).

The Special Education Fund arises from the additional one percent (1%) tax on real property and is allotted by the Local Government Code to the local school boards. Proceeds shall be divided equally between the provincial and municipal school boards. It is allocated for the operation and maintenance of public schools, construction and repair of school buildings, facilities and equipment; educational research; purchase of books and periodicals; and sports development in amounts determined by the local school boards themselves.

Example:
The assessed value of a real property is P 100,000. 1% of P 100,000, which amounts to P 1,000, automatically goes to the Special Education Fund. This amount, P 1,000, will be equally divided between the provincial and municipal school boards, resulting in P 500 each for both entities.
