The Philippine National Police, under the leadership of PNP Chief PGEN Jose Melencio C. Nartatez Jr., has reported a steady rise in former communist-linked supporters in Central Luzon voluntarily abandoning their affiliations and choosing to return to peaceful civilian life during a series of coordinated operations and community engagements held from June 16 to 18, 2026.

Police Regional Office 3 (PRO3), together with partner security forces, local government units, and community stakeholders, facilitated the surrender and withdrawal of support of several individuals previously linked to organizations associated with the communist insurgency.

Among those who returned to the fold of the law were former CTG members identified by their aliases โ€œKa Junโ€ of Bataan and โ€œPingโ€ of Aurora, who voluntarily surrendered and turned over fi****ms and other war materiel. In Tarlac, former AMBALA affiliate โ€œPacoโ€ also renounced his support and surrendered a homemade firearm.

Additional individuals who severed ties with the movement included โ€œBoyongโ€ of Pampanga, four former members of DAMAKKA in Nueva Ecija, ten members of the Liga ng Manggagawang Bukid (LMB) in Guimba, Nueva Ecija, and former affiliates of ANAKPAWIS in Olongapo City.

Authorities attributed the development to sustained community engagement, dialogue initiatives, and intelligence-driven police interventions under the governmentโ€™s whole-of-nation approach in support of the National Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (NTF-ELCAC), which continues to open pathways for reintegration and peaceful transformation.
As part of reintegration procedures, the former rebels and supporters underwent proper documentation and were provided initial assistance, including food packs and other government support services to help them transition back into their communities.

The PNP emphasized that continued cooperation between communities and law enforcement remains vital in sustaining peace and preventing further recruitment into insurgent-linked organizations.

He added that sustained cooperation between communities and law enforcement remains vital in preventing further recruitment into insurgent-linked organizations and strengthening peace in affected areas.

โ€œAng kapayapaan ay mas nagiging matatag kapag ang bawat mamamayan ay nakikibahagi at nakikipagtulungan sa ating layunin para sa kaayusan,โ€ he added.

The PNP Focus Agenda, a transformation-oriented framework aimed at improving police service delivery, highlights key priorities, particularly enhanced managing police operations and active community support, which align with strengthened community engagement and operational support efforts in ongoing peacebuilding and reintegration initiatives.

As the PNP sustains community-based security operations under the directive of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., it continues to assure the public of โ€œBagong PNP para sa Bagong Pilipinas: Serbisyong mabilis, tapat, at nararamdaman.โ€

PNP ARRESTS SUSPECT IN BACOOR SHOOTOUT, HUNT ON FOR COHORT

The Philippine National Police, under the leadership of PNP Chief, PGEN Jose Melencio C. Nartatez Jr., arrested a 26-year-old Filipino male suspect following an armed encounter with a police officer on June 23, 2026 along River Drive, Barangay Molino III, Bacoor City, Cavite.

The suspect, who is now under police custody while receiving treatment at a government hospital, was apprehended after he and another individual allegedly opened fire on an off-duty Bacoor City police officer who was on his way home aboard his personal motorcycle. The police officer, who was unharmed, was able to defend himself and hit one of the assailants, while the other suspect, identified only by the alias โ€œErwin,โ€ fled and remains the subject of a continuing manhunt.

Initial investigation showed that the police officer chanced upon the two suspects seated on a parked motorcycle and observed their suspicious presence along the roadside. As he moved to verify the situation, the two men allegedly disembarked and suddenly fired at him, prompting the officer to return fire in self-defense using his issued firearm. The exchange resulted in the wounding and subsequent arrest of one of the suspects, while his cohort escaped toward Molino Road.

During questioning, the arrested suspect disclosed that he and his cohort had gone to the area in search of a possible victim to rob at gunpoint. Recovered from the arrested suspect was a .38 caliber revolver without serial number, loaded with one fired cartridge case and four live rounds. Also recovered from the scene were a blue-and-black motorcycle without plate number, a detached plate number, a white helmet, a steel knuckle, a cap, a black purse, and two fired cartridge cases for 9mm, all of which are now being examined as part of the ongoing investigation.

Personnel from the Cavite Provincial Forensic Unit processed the crime scene and conducted forensic procedures in support of the case build-up, while investigators completed the inventory of the recovered firearm and ammunition in the presence of a barangay official. The firearm and ammunition are set to undergo technical examination, and criminal complaints for Attempted Murder and Violation of Republic Act No. 10591, or the Comprehensive Fi****ms and Ammunition Regulation Act, are being prepared for filing before the Office of the City Prosecutor for inquest proceedings. Police authorities are continuing efforts to locate and arrest the fleeing cohort.

PNP Chief PGEN Nartatez lauded the police officer for his presence of mind and lawful response in the face of danger, while emphasizing the organizationโ€™s sustained campaign against armed criminals and illegal fi****ms. โ€œOur police officers are expected to act with discipline, courage, and sound judgment even under threat. This arrest reflects the determination of the PNP to stop armed violence and bring offenders before the law,โ€ he said.

In a separate statement, PGEN Nartatez stressed that law enforcement efforts would continue until all those involved are held accountable. โ€œHustisya ang kahahantungan ng lahat ng sangkot sa pamamaril na ito. Tuloy ang pagtugis sa kasamahan niyang tumakas upang matiyak ang kaligtasan ng publiko,โ€ the PNP Chief said.

The successful police action reflects the PNPโ€™s continuing commitment to its PNP Focused Agenda, a strategic direction for institutional transformation aimed at making police service more responsive and reliable. The operation highlights the PNPโ€™s priority on Enhanced Managing Police Operations, as units promptly addressed the armed threat, secured evidence, and pursued the remaining suspect to support case filing and the pursuit of justice.

As the PNP strengthens its campaign against armed criminality and other threats to public safety under the directive of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., it assures the public of โ€œBagong PNP para sa Bagong Pilipinas: Serbisyong mabilis, tapat, at nararamdaman.โ€
