The Mineral Resource Management and Geosciences Section (MRMGS) of the Guimaras Environment and Natural Resources Office successfully conducted the Orientation on Mining Laws, Rules, and Regulations and the Deputation of the Provincial Law Enforcement and Public Safety Task Force (PLEPS-TF) Personnel on May 7, 2026, at the CAVES Conference Room.

Engr. Kimberly A. Villa, Engineer IV and OIC-Chief of the Mining Tenement and Evaluation Section, and In-Concurrent Capacity as Chief Monitoring and Technical Services Section of the Mines and Geosciences Bureau Region VI (MGB VI), as the resource speaker for the activity.

Key provisions was discussed under DENR Administrative Order (DAO) No. 2026-04, also known as the Environment and Natural Resources Law Enforcement Manual of Operations (ELEMO), including Mining Laws and Permit Issuances, and Prohibited Acts and Penal Provisions. The discussion was followed by an engaging open forum with the participants.

Also present during the activity were Engr. Errol C. Fuentes, Engineer V and Chief of the Mine Management Division, and Engr. Van Justin A. Podiotan, Engineer II of the Monitoring and Technical Services Section of MGB Regional Office VI.

Mr. Leonard S. Pasiderio, Provincial ENR Officer, emphasized during his closing remarks the important role of the deputized personnel in promoting responsible and regulated mining practices, and ensuring public safety across the province. He also expressed his confidence that they will continue to perform their duties with commitment, integrity, and dedication.

The activity was attended by 14 PLEPS-TF personnel assigned in 5 municipalities.

The municipalities of Buenavista, Nueva Valencia, San Lorenzo , Sibunag and the Province conducted the writeshop on the updating of their respective 10-Year Ecological Solid Waste Management Plans. In relation to Section 16 of Republic Act 9003, otherwise known as the Ecological Solid Waste Management Act of 2000, Local Government Units (LGUs) are mandated to prepare 10-year Solid Waste Management Plans consistent with the National Solid Waste Management Framework.

The Guimaras Environment and Natural Resources Office (GENRO) spearheaded the two-day Solid Waste Management Plan Updating Writeshop on April 29-30, 2026 at Punta Villa Resort, Nueva Valencia. Technical personnel from Environmental Management Bureau Region VI (EMB 6), SWM Focal Persons from Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Office (MENRO) and the Municipal Planning and Development Office (MPDO) attended the in-house planning workshop aimed at improving and updating the LGUsโ€™ solid waste management plans.

The Provincial Mine Regulatory Board (PMRB) conducted its regular meeting on April 28, 2026 at the CAVES Conference Room in San Miguel, Jordan. The meeting was presided over by Engr. Errol C. Fuentes of the Mines and Geosciences Bureau Region VI (MGB-VI).
Key agenda items discussed were the upcoming orientation and deputation of selected members of the Provincial Law Enforcement and Public Safety Task Force (PLEPS-TF), along with GENRO personnel from the MRMGS Section and the DENR-PENRO Guimaras. The activity will be conducted by the Mines and Geosciences Bureau Region VI (MGB-VI) to further strengthen enforcement capabilities and inter-agency collaboration. In addition, the board reviewed and evaluated compliance of quarry operations in the Province.
The meeting was attended by representatives from MGB Region VI, the Guimaras Environment and Natural Resources Office (GENRO), and the President of the Guimaras Small-Scale Miners Association (GSSMA).
