Recognizing the importance of preparing young Filipinos for the world of work, Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Secretary Francis N. Tolentino continues to emphasize the value of strengthening the link between education and employment through programs that provide practical experience, relevant skills, and meaningful opportunities for the youth. Through the Government Internship Program (GIP), DOLE helps young individuals gain firsthand experience in government service and develop essential workplace competencies. “Dako ni siya nga opportunity sa inyoha na makatrabaho sa government offices, makatuon mo sa trabaho sa gobyerno, ug ma-develop inyong mga skills” (This is a great opportunity for you to work in government offices, learn how government operations work, and develop your skills), said Marlito D. Ayala, Head of DOLE XI – IGACOS Extension Office, as he welcomed the 21 newly accepted GIP interns during their orientation on November 3, 2026. The interns will be deployed to various local and national government offices until December 15, 2026, where they will gain practical work experience. The orientation, facilitated by Janice T. Magallanes, TUPAD Coordinator, covered professionalism, workplace conduct, GIP guidelines, and proper accomplishment of Daily Time Records (DTR).
For Anna Marie Viquiera, one of the newly accepted interns, GIP marks another milestone in her employment journey after previously participating in the Special Program for Employment of Students (SPES). She shared that her previous experience provided valuable lessons that she now hopes to apply as a GIP intern. As a fresh graduate, she expressed gratitude to DOLE for providing an opportunity to learn, gain confidence, and experience an actual workplace. Her story reflects the continuing impact of DOLE's youth employment programs in helping young Filipinos build their skills and prepare for future careers. Through GIP, DOLE XI – IGACOS Extension Office reinforces its commitment to providing young Samaleños with meaningful opportunities to develop professionally and gain a deeper understanding of public service.

Eighty-five young individuals assigned to the Local Government Unit of Tagum City, in partnership with PESCDO Tagum, are set to gain valuable workplace experience through the Department of Labor and Employment's (DOLE) Government Internship Program (GIP).

DOLE Secretary Francis N. Tolentino has emphasized that the GIP should go beyond providing work exposure by equipping young Filipinos with practical skills and competencies that can prepare them for future careers in public service.

The beneficiaries attended their pre-deployment orientation on October 28, covering the program's guidelines and the soft and core skills needed in the workplace. This was followed by their contract signing on October 30, formalizing their participation in the program.

Beyond preparing them for future employment, the GIP also provides an opportunity for young people to understand the value of public service and their role in the community. This aligns with GIP Cares, a DOLE XI advocacy that encourages interns to extend their service beyond the workplace through volunteerism and initiatives that support communities and the environment.

As these 85 young individuals begin their journey in government service, they are encouraged to carry not only the skills they develop but also a sense of responsibility, compassion, and commitment to serving others.

The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) XI–IGACOS Extension Office, together with the Local Government Unit–Public Employment Service Office (LGU-PESO), conducted JobStart internship monitoring on October 27, 2026, among beneficiaries assigned to partner establishments in IGACOS. The activity supports DOLE’s commitment under the leadership of Secretary Francis N. Tolentino to equip young Filipinos with the skills, workplace discipline, and experience necessary to become employment-ready. The monitoring assessed the trainees’ workplace behavior, performance, and Daily Time Records (DTRs) while providing guidance to help ensure that the objectives of the JobStart Philippines Program are achieved.

During the monitoring, trainees were reminded of the importance of punctuality, courtesy, professionalism, proper workplace conduct, and compliance with company rules and regulations. They were also encouraged to demonstrate responsibility, willingness to learn, and respect toward supervisors and co-workers. Some beneficiaries have already progressed to the internship phase, allowing them to apply the knowledge and skills gained during their technical training in actual workplace settings. The internship provides trainees with hands-on experience and helps them better understand the expectations and responsibilities of employees.

Through the continued partnership of DOLE, LGU-PESO, and JobStart partner employers, the program provides young Samaleños with meaningful workplace exposure and opportunities to develop competencies responsive to the needs of employers. The monitoring activity reinforces DOLE’s commitment to creating stronger employment pathways for the youth by bridging skills training with actual workplace experience. As the trainees move toward the completion of their internship, they are expected to carry with them not only the technical skills they acquired but also the discipline, confidence, and workplace values needed to pursue sustainable employment.
