On September 18th, 2026, just after 7 pm, Dispatcher Matt Avery took a call from a patient who was having chest, jaw and back pain. He was in his vehicle driving to a hospital for care. Matt instructed him to pull over and assured him he would send first responders to him. The caller, Gene, pulled over and waited for help. Matt stayed on the phone with Gene while the Newstead Fire Company and a Twin City Ambulance were dispatched. Crews arrived within minutes. Gene’s vitals were showing the signs and symptoms of a heart attack. Twin City transported Gene to Buffalo General Hospital. He was taken back right away for further care. Gene faced medical intervention and a hospital stay but has since been discharged. Gene was able to call the Alarm Office and thanked Matt on the phone.

Tonight, Gene came up to the Alarm Office with dinner and to meet Matt.

We rarely hear outcomes of the incidents we handle but being able to meet the patients we care for is extraordinary!

Not just for Matt and Gene but for all of us!
