Recovery begins with connection, not compliance.

People don’t need another list of referrals or another system telling them what they need to fix. They need relationships built on trust, respect, choice, and the belief that their future is bigger than their past.

Our colleague Alexander Frisina of Hands Across Long Island (HALI) makes this point powerfully in his article on reimagining behavioral health support for people involved in the justice system. A worthwhile read that reminds us that people don’t reconnect with systems. They reconnect with people.

Peer-led reentry support builds trust, connection, and stability for people returning to the community after incarceration.

⬇️⬇️ "Worth considering: For kids with fewer resources, fewer safe places to go, or limited access to activities and social opportunities, gaming may be one of the few things available to them.
Before we focus only on screen time, maybe we should also ask what other meaningful options kids have. It’s easier to put down the controller when there’s something else to look forward to.
Sometimes, we need to look beyond the behavior and consider the circumstances surrounding it. "
