The Buncombe County District Attorney’s Office announced that James Eugene Cole III, 53, has been sentenced to 101 to 149 months in state prison following guilty pleas to multiple drug trafficking, fi***rm and fleeing law enforcement charges.

The convictions stem from multiple investigations conducted by the Buncombe County Sheriff’s Office. During two separate traffic stops in June 2025 and January 2026, deputies seized a combined 77 grams of methamphetamine and two handguns.

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month

This month, the Buncombe County Sheriff’s Office joins communities across the country in raising awareness about breast cancer and recognizing the strength of those impacted by this disease.

Breast cancer affects not only those diagnosed, but also their families, friends and loved ones. Early detection can save lives, and we encourage community members to speak with their healthcare providers about recommended screenings and breast health.

To those currently fighting, those who have survived, and the families remembering loved ones lost to breast cancer, we stand with you.

Together, we can raise awareness, support one another and make a difference.
