A Little More Light in the Morning

Daylight Saving Time ends today, November 1, so remember to turn your clocks back one hour. It’s also a good time to check your home’s lighting, replace burned-out bulbs, and make sure smoke and carbon monoxide alarms are working properly.

And enjoy that extra hour! Use it to catch up with a friend, enjoy a cup of coffee, or simply slow down and start the day at your own pace.

Happy Halloween From HBFAAA!

Halloween is the perfect excuse to bring out your playful side. Wear a silly costume. Tell the spooky story. Enjoy your favorite treat. Laugh at the decorations that are supposed to scare you. You don’t have to be a kid to enjoy a little Halloween magic.

This year, skip the tricks and make room for treats, laughter, and good company. Stop by your local senior center, join in an activity, and enjoy some Halloween spirit with friends and neighbors. Because a little Halloween fun is always worth celebrating.

A Little Patience Can Make a Big Difference

For someone living with dementia, an ordinary moment can sometimes feel confusing or overwhelming. A busy room. An unfamiliar place. Several questions at once. What may seem simple to us may not feel simple to someone else.
When that happens, slow things down. Give the person time to respond. Offer reassurance instead of rushing to correct them. A calm voice and a familiar presence can help make a difficult moment feel a little easier.

People living with dementia are still valued members of our families and communities. A little understanding can help everyone feel more comfortable, respected, and included.

When Caregiving Needs Change, So Can Your Plan

What works today may not work six months from now. A loved one’s needs can change, and caregivers may suddenly find themselves wondering about different services, additional support, or new ways to manage day-to-day responsibilities.
HBFAAA can help caregivers and families explore programs and resources that may be available based on their circumstances and eligibility. You don’t need to have everything figured out before you reach out. Sometimes the most helpful place to start is simply asking a question and learning what options may be available.

Wondering what might be available for your family? Contact HBFAAA at 814-623-8148 or 1-800-892-7903, or explore programs and eligibility at www.hbfaaa.org.
