The Billerica Police Department responded this morning to Shawsheen Valley Technical High School to investigate a threat written on a bathroom stall.

At approximately 9:30 a.m., the school placed the building on a hold, requiring students and staff to remain in their assigned locations as Billerica Police conducted an investigation, including a search of the building.

As a precaution, the school conducted a controlled dismissal this morning, and all after-school activities have been canceled.

A building search has been conducted and nothing was found.

At this time, all students are safe and have been dismissed from school. The incident remains under investigation by Billerica Police, and the threat has been deemed non-credible.

UPDATE: the Billerica Police with the assistance of Billerica Fire and NEMLEC assets have cleared the school. Students have returned to classes. The Billerica Police Department is investigating the source of the threat and will update the public as pertinent information becomes available.

The Billerica Police Department is currently on scene at Billerica Memorial High School investigating a bomb threat that was called into the school this morning.

At 6:15 a.m., Billerica Police were made aware of a bomb threat to the high school.

The threat was made before any students had entered the building. As students arrived at the school, they were brought to a field on school property under the supervision of staff.

A NEMLEC K-9 Unit is currently assisting the Billerica Police Department with sweeping the school building to ensure the building is safe for students to enter.

All students are safe and are under supervision of high school faculty and staff. We urge parents to avoid coming to the school, and we ask that community members avoid the area.

We will share further information as it becomes available.

The Billerica Police Department is welcoming an Air Force veteran and experienced dispatcher to the department upon his successful graduation from Lowell Police Academy.

Officer Nolan Rexford is a longtime resident of Billerica who graduated from Shawsheen Valley Technical High School. He also served in the U.S. Air Force, where he worked as a mechanic on B-2 Stealth Bombers with the 393rd Bomb Wing.

Since leaving the military about 18 months ago, he has worked as a dispatcher for the Peabody Police Department.

Officer Rexford has been interested in law enforcement since he was 12 years old and joined a Police Explorers program, where he spent the next seven years learning about the day-to-day tasks performed by police.

“I’m excited to serve the community I grew up in, and I look forward to an exciting and fulfilling career with the Billerica Police Department,” Officer Rexford said.

“Officer Rexford grew up in Billerica, served our country, and learned about law enforcement through dispatching and Police Explorers, and we are lucky to have him aboard,” said Chief Frost.
