Apparently, some folks believe that only "certain kinds of people" should be allowed to serve in elected office. That your qualifications should be measured by how much is in your bank account and whether you own property, rather than by your experience, your values, or your commitment to the community.
We see it differently.
We know the value of diversity in public office. We know that communities are stronger when the people making decisions reflect the people who actually live in them. Homeowners and renters. Business owners and workers. Young people and seniors. People from different backgrounds, with different experiences and different perspectives.
Public service should be about who you serve, not what you own.
The goal of representative government isn't to preserve a seat at the table for people who already have privilege.
It's to make sure everyone has a seat at the table.
And we won't apologize for believing that representation matters.
