For more than six decades, Chilton County conducted much of its government business from a courthouse built in the early 1960s. As the county grew, so did the demands on the facility. Limited accessibility, aging infrastructure, space constraints, and county services spread across multiple locations ultimately led county leaders to pursue a new courthouse designed around the needs of residents today and well into the future.

The new approximately 72,000-square-foot Chilton County Courthouse in Clanton brings courtrooms, administrative offices, licensing functions, and support services together in a central location. Situated along Alabama Highway 145, the courthouse was designed as a more accessible and efficient hub for county government, while the larger site provides room for future expansion as the community continues to grow.

Business Interiors worked alongside Chilton County and Birchfield Penuel Architects to provide furniture solutions throughout portions of three floors of the new facility. BI’s scope supported approximately 40 private offices as well as shared offices, open work areas, conference rooms, break rooms, reception and waiting areas, and a variety of administrative and public-service environments.

The scope also extended to spaces with needs specific to the courthouse and county operations, including Grand Jury and Trial Prep areas, high-density filing, select Probate Court furnishings, and furniture for the County Commission auditorium. Across these varied applications, the furniture package supports the people responsible for carrying out the county’s day-to-day work as well as the residents who depend on those services.

The courthouse opened in 2026 as a new center for civic and government activity in Chilton County—bringing previously dispersed functions together in a facility created to serve the community for years to come.

Headquartered in Huntsville, Alabama, Performance Drone Works (PDW) is a growing defense technology company specializing in unmanned systems. Business Interiors’ relationship with PDW began in Huntsville, where our team has supported multiple projects as the company has grown.

In 2026, that relationship extended to Denver as PDW opened a new Engineering Hub as part of its expanding national engineering footprint.

An early visit to Denver gave our team the opportunity to experience the space and its architectural finishes firsthand. With flexibility to explore finishes and textiles, our design team drew inspiration from the space to develop a furniture palette that complemented the interior while giving the workplace a cohesive identity. Davis Partnership Architects served as the architecture firm for the project, with BI coordinating furniture placement with the Davis team to support the overall plan.

BI’s scope included 62 workstations, 12 private offices, two huddle rooms, two phone rooms, three collaborative areas, a breakroom, reception and lobby, and a wellness room. Herman Miller Canvas Vista was selected for the open work areas, helping define individual workspaces while maintaining an open feel and preserving views of the city and surrounding mountains.

The Denver project represents another step in a growing relationship between PDW and Business Interiors. With an additional phase planned in Denver, the furniture solutions developed for the new Engineering Hub are also helping establish a standard that can carry into future PDW locations and updates.

Business Interiors was proud to be part of this year’s AIA Alabama Conference on Architecture, held at Perdido Beach Resort in Orange Beach, AL.

The annual conference brings architecture professionals from across Alabama together for continuing education, industry conversations, networking, and a celebration of great design throughout the state.

As a participating sponsor of the conference, BI’s Architectural Products | Director James Decker and CMO Mark Griffo spent time at the Product Show with architects from across Alabama and industry partners from around the Southeast, while sharing more about BI and the solutions we bring to the built environment, including solutions from our partners ALUR Walls and Falkbuilt Ltd..

We’re proud to support AIA Alabama and local AIA chapters across the state. It’s always a good opportunity to spend time with the architecture community, stay connected, and support the work happening throughout Alabama … and it’s even better when it’s at the beach. 🌊☀️🏖️

We’ve been growing lately, and we have quite a few new—and returning—faces to officially welcome to BI. 👋

First up are Zamarion Bender and Holly Obrien, who spent this past summer with us as Design | Student Interns and have now returned to BI as full-time Designers in Birmingham. We’re excited to have them back and even more excited to see them begin their careers with a team they already know well.

Also joining us in Birmingham, Sinclair Turner has joined Client Services | Support, helping support the communication, coordination, and details that keep projects moving behind the scenes.

Raymon Waller Jr. and TJ Ogletree have joined our Distribution team as Distribution | Associates, supporting the warehouse, delivery, and day-to-day operations that help get our projects from BI to the client.

In Tallahassee, Madeline Scott has joined BI in Client Services | Support, working alongside our Florida team to support clients and projects throughout the region. As our presence in the Florida Panhandle continues to grow, we’re glad to have another strong addition to the team there.

And rounding out the group is Emma Brookins, who has joined our Birmingham Accounting team as an Accounting | Student Intern while completing her Master of Accountancy at Samford University.

From returning interns beginning their careers to new team members across Client Services, Distribution, and Accounting, we’re glad to have each of them here and excited to see the ways they’ll contribute to BI.

Welcome, Zamarion, Holly, Sinclair, Raymon, TJ, Madeline, and Emma. ✨
