Hi friends! Deloris here, reporting for duty with a little wish list from my shelter pals!

We've got lots of dogs to keep cozy, bellies to fill, and busy mouths to entertain, and we're running low on a few essentials. We could really use your help!

Here's what's on our wish list:

Larger bedding: Blankets, sheets, and comforters to keep our kennels cozy.

Canned dog food: Any brand or variety is appreciated!

Long-lasting chews: To help keep us happy, busy, and entertained while we wait for our forever homes.

Every donation, big or small, makes a difference for dogs like me. We sure appreciate our community looking out for us!

Love,
Deloris (and all my shelter friends)

Nearly one year. That's how long Red has been waiting for her forever home.

And we genuinely cannot understand how this sweet girl is still waiting.

Red is, without exaggeration, one of the sweetest dogs we've ever had the pleasure of knowing. At around 5 years old and just 40 pounds, this petite little lady is the absolute best of both worlds. She loves getting outside to explore, going for walks, and having a little fun, but she's equally happy curled up beside you for a cozy afternoon on the couch. And as you can see, she's pretty good at making herself comfortable!

Red adores children, is housetrained, walks beautifully on leash, and has a heart as big as they come. She's truly an angel of a dog.

Her one request? She needs to be your one and only pet. But we promise, Red has more than enough love to fill an entire home.

Red is currently enjoying life in a foster home, but what she really needs is a family to call her own. After nearly a year of waiting, we would love nothing more than to see this wonderful girl finally get her happy ending.

Interested in meeting Red? Since she's in foster care, please contact us to learn more and arrange a meet-and-greet!

Luigi with an important announcement!

Our shelter is overflowing with wonderful dogs waiting for homes, and we're waiving adoption fees for dogs ages 6 months to 3 years!

Why this age group? These dogs make up the largest portion of our shelter population and are often among those who struggle the most in the shelter environment. While puppies and older, more settled dogs may catch an adopter's eye, our adolescent and young adult dogs are too often overlooked.

By removing adoption fees for this age group, we're hoping to shine a spotlight on these deserving dogs, encourage more adoptions, and help ease overcrowding in our shelter.

Dogs outside this age range will continue to have reduced adoption fees of just $50.

We are overflowing with dogs, and we need your help.

The Bloomington Animal Shelter is at capacity, with dogs of all ages, sizes, and personalities urgently needing homes. We have so many wonderful dogs waiting for their chance, and we need both adopters and foster families to help us make room for those still coming through our doors.

October is Adopt a Dog Month, and adoption fees are just $50 for dogs over 6 months old, with many dogs having their fees waived entirely!

Foster homes are needed, too! It’s never been easier to get started, with foster orientation now available online. Check out our website to learn more or join our team!

The dogs pictured are just some of the many who need you. Visit our website to learn more about them, or stop by and meet your new best friend.

Please adopt, foster, or share. We’ve seen what this community can do for animals in need, and we’re asking you to show up for them once again.

Ophelia has the good ears…. and an even better smile!

October is both Adopt-a-Dog Month and Pit Bull Awareness Month, and Ophelia is a lovely reminder of how wonderful bully breeds can be. She’s a fantastic ambassador: affectionate, people-loving, and always ready to share a car ride or a cozy couch nap.

This middle-aged lady enjoys sunny walks and short bursts of exploring, followed by plenty of relaxing. She does well with children, but she’s more particular about her dog friends. We are happy to assist with a dog to dog introduction prior to adoption to make sure it’s a good fit!Ophelia can also be sensitive to loud noises, so a quieter home would suit her best.

If you’re looking for a sweet companion for both little adventures and lazy afternoons, come meet Ophelia! Reminder! Adoption fees for dogs 6 months and up are reduced to just $50 all month long!

Shelter Dog Feature: Meet Allen!

Some dogs have hobbies. Allen has a whole side gig helping us get to know other dogs!

At just over a year old and around 50 pounds, Allen proudly holds the title of Helper Dog here at the shelter. He assists our staff during dog-to-dog introductions, helping us assess how other dogs interact and communicate with their canine counterparts. He's a friendly, easygoing fellow who takes it all in stride, even when the other dog isn't particularly interested in making friends.

His preferred form of payment? B***y scratches. He's a simple guy with very reasonable demands.

Allen has come a long way since arriving at the shelter! Once a little unsure of himself, he's blossomed into a confident, joyful, ridiculously sweet goofball. He's athletic, playful, and full of enthusiasm for life. Whether he's making new friends, showing off his moves, or soaking up affection, Allen has a way of making everyone around him smile.

Allen has spent plenty of time helping us get to know other dogs. Now it's his turn to find someone who wants to get to know him!

October is Adopt-a-Dog Month! Adoption fees for dogs 6 months and older are reduced to just $50 all month long! It's the perfect time to FALL in love!

Come meet Allen and friends at the Bloomington Animal Shelter!

Foster Feature Friday: Meet Wilbur!

Dressed to impress and full of opinions, Wilbur is a dapper tuxedo gentleman looking for his forever home!

Wilbur takes his responsibilities very seriously. Between his shifts at the biscuit-making factory, monitoring the neighborhood birds, and conducting thorough inspections of his foster home, he's a busy fellow. In his downtime, he enjoys playing with his favorite toys, soaking up snuggles, and loudly informing his foster mom of anything he feels requires her immediate attention.

He's fancy, he's funny, and he's certainly not short on personality!

While Wilbur wasn't particularly fond of shelter life, he is absolutely thriving in foster care! His playful, curious, and affectionate personality has really blossomed in a more comfortable environment.

This well-dressed gentleman is seeking a quiet, cat-free home where he can enjoy life at his own pace. While his experience with children is unknown, we believe a home with humans ages 12 and older would be the best fit.

Wilbur already has the tuxedo. Now he just needs somewhere to wear it!

Interested in meeting Wilbur? He's currently enjoying life in a foster home, so please contact the shelter to learn more or arrange a meeting.

With a name like Saint, you'd expect a pretty heavenly dog. And as it turns out, he's exactly that, with a healthy dose of silliness thrown in for good measure!

Saint is nearly 3 years old, dog-friendly, and has somehow spent TEN WHOLE WEEKS waiting for his forever home. We're a little baffled, because this boy has personality to spare!

Saint is a glorious mix of snuggles and spirit. He's an expert cuddler who will happily snuggle up close, soak up every belly rub, and gaze soulfully into your eyes as if you're the most wonderful person he's ever met.

But Saint isn't all snuggles! He's a playful, curious fellow who loves toys, learning new tricks, and exploring the world around him. Whether he's leaping over hurdles or joyfully rolling through the grass, this boy knows how to have a good time!

Ten weeks is far too long for a dog with this much love and life to share!

October is Adopt-a-Dog Month, and adoption fees for dogs 6 months and older are reduced to just $50 all month long! What better time to Fall in Love with a Saint?

Come meet Saint at the Bloomington Animal Shelter!
