Escambia County Schools, AL will remain closed until Monday as we continue recovery efforts following Hurricane Isaias. The safety of our students, staff, and families remains our top priority. We appreciate your patience and support as teams work to assess and secure our campuses.

Escambia County Schools Families and Staff,

Out of an abundance of caution and based on forecasts indicating the potential for severe weather impacts across our area, all Escambia County Schools will be closed on Friday, October 9, 2026.

The safety of our students, employees, and families remains our highest priority. District officials will continue to closely monitor weather conditions and work with local emergency management officials to assess any additional impacts.

All school activities, athletic events, extracurricular activities, and after-school programs scheduled for Friday are canceled. As previously communicated, athletic contests have been moved to Thursday, and no extracurricular activities will be held this weekend due to the anticipated weather.

We encourage all families and staff to remain weather aware and follow guidance from local emergency management and public safety officials.

Any additional updates will be communicated through our district website, social media channels, SchoolStatus notifications, and local media outlets.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation as we work to keep everyone safe.

We also want to remind families that Monday, October 12 and Tuesday, October 13, are scheduled fall break days. Students will return to school on Wednesday, October 14.

We know changes to the school schedule can require families to make adjustments, and we appreciate your understanding as we make decisions based on the safety of our school community.

A big thank you to Chief Hetrick, Lt. Staples, and Lt. Smith with the Flomaton Police Department for taking time to visit Mr. Herrington’s Law & Public Safety class!

The officers spoke with students about the dangers of impaired, drunk, and distracted driving and the serious consequences these decisions can have. Students also had a great time getting some hands-on experience by wearing the “drunk goggles” and attempting field sobriety tests conducted by the officers.

Experiences like this give our students the opportunity to learn directly from professionals in the field while seeing firsthand just how dangerous impaired driving can be.

Thank you again to Chief Hetrick, Lt. Staples, Lt. Smith, and the Flomaton Police Department for investing in our students and helping make this lesson both educational and memorable!

ORAU launched the Extreme Trades Makeover: Future Welders competition in last October to award three Alabama welding teachers with $30,000 in new equipment or upgrades for their workshops or classrooms.
Teachers who entered the competition were required to create a three- to four-minute video creatively explaining what they would do with $30,000 if they were selected.
As you may remember our Welding Technology teacher Mr. Marty Long was selected as one of the three $30,000 winners. Today the team from Extreme Trades Makeover came back to ECRC to see how the $30,000 was spent. We will have video and more pictures in the future, but here are some pictures from their visit today.
