Today, October 1st, marks the beginning of Kentucky’s fall fire season, which runs October 1–December 15.

As we head into the fire season, we want to remind everyone:

🌲 Outdoor burning is restricted during fire season.
🔥 Burning is only permitted between 6:00 PM and 6:00 AM, unless the ground is covered with snow.
📏 Keep burn piles at least 150 feet from any woodland or brushland.
💧 Always have a water source and shovel nearby.
👀 Never leave a fire unattended make sure it is completely out before you leave.

Before you burn, check for any additional local burning restrictions or bans that may be in effect.

Please burn responsibly and help us prevent wildfires before they start.

A few minutes of preparation can prevent hours of firefighting and potentially save homes, property, and lives. (Info courtesy of Central City FD)

The Nelson Creek Volunteer Fire Department would like to send a huge thank you to the Muhlenberg County FFA for stopping by and delivering some delicious smoked bologna to our firefighters!

We are truly blessed to have such a supportive community behind us. It’s partnerships and acts of kindness like this that remind us just how fortunate we are to serve the people of Nelson Creek and Muhlenberg County.

We would also like to thank the Kentucky FFA Grant for providing the bologna and Scott Slinker for providing the materials needed to prepare and smoke the meat.

From all of us at Nelson Creek VFD, thank you for thinking of our firefighters and supporting our department! We are proud to be part of such a great community.

The Nelson Creek Fire Department is excited to share some great news. The Nelson Creek Volunteer Fire Department just received notification that the FEMA grant we applied for to purchase brand new SCBA air packs has been approved and awarded for $220,500!

This is a huge accomplishment for our department and it's a direct result of the commitment the firefighters here at Nelson Creek continue to show. We want to thank our firefighters for continuing to show up for training, answering 911 calls, and all the extra work we do to make this department better!

Their dedication is what makes us capable of receiving grants like this and moving forward as a stronger, better-equipped, and most importantly, one big family.

We also want to thank our grant writer, Beth Bishop, for all the hard work she done to make this possible.

Thank YOU to the community for everything you do to support this fire department. This is a big win for Nelson Creek FD, and we sure are proud of it!

Tonight, members of the Nelson Creek Fire Department are proud to be standing by at the Muhlenberg County Fair for the Truck and Tractor Pulls. It’s always an honor to serve our community, whether we’re responding to emergencies or helping keep local events safe and enjoyable for families and visitors alike.

Our department has a special connection to the Muhlenberg County Fair that goes back to our very beginning. When Nelson Creek Fire Department was established in the early 1990s, we were a young volunteer department working hard to raise the funds needed for equipment and operations. The Muhlenberg County Fair gave our members the opportunity to work by parking cars during fair week, and the money earned helped purchase some of the original equipment that got our department off the ground.

What many may not realize is that support didn’t just help us then, it helped shape the department we are today. Because of the generosity of our community and organizations like the Muhlenberg County Fair, we’ve been able to grow and continue investing in up-to-date equipment and resources for our firefighters. That means our members have the tools they need to operate safely and effectively while providing the highest level of service possible to the citizens of our fire district. Nearly 35 years later, those acts of generosity and community support have never been forgotten.

Tonight, as we stand by to protect those enjoying the Truck and Tractor Pulls, we’re reminded that serving this community is both a privilege and a way to give back to the people who believed in us from the very beginning.

If you’re out at the fair, stop by and say hello! We hope everyone has a safe and enjoyable evening, and we thank each of you for your continued support of the Nelson Creek Fire Department.
