Dylan Woodward from Kids on Point was our principal for the day last Tuesday. Not only did he observe in classrooms and eat with our students, but he was even interviewed for the student-run news show! Thank you for joining us, Mr. Woodward!

So proud of our progress! Way to go 3rd graders.

Rich in history, beautiful beaches, and Southern cuisine, South Carolina is rich in something else, too—a commitment to literacy education. The state’s recent adoption of the science of reading shows how South Carolina is investing in students’ futures.

Through The 74's Bright Spots project, which analyzed data from roughly 42,000 public schools nationwide, we identified schools where third-grade reading proficiency significantly exceeds what would be predicted based on local poverty rates. These schools emerged as positive outliers in early literacy.

We're proud to recognize the following South Carolina schools as Bright Spots for Excellence in Reading Education:

Brockman Elementary School
Royall Elementary School
James Simons Montessori School
Pinecrest Elementary School
Waccamaw Elementary

If your school is a Bright Spot, we’d love to hear about the ways your educators are supporting student success in reading. Share this post and celebrate your school community!
