Last week, we asked you to help SSCOH fill the gap left by policy changes that threaten Independence House families.
Your support means women and children will have food on the table, a safe place to live, and advocates in their corner as they navigate a difficult moment.
Thank you for standing with us and with Independence House families! đź’™

"Older women who are household heads are more likely to live alone, ... rent rather than own, and ... have lower incomes. They also face higher rates of housing cost burden than their male counterparts."
This was the concludion of a recent study from the Harvard University Joint Center for Housing Studies.
Black and Hispanic women heads of household who are over the age of 65 and are renters have the lowest income of all groups.
At Southside Center of Hope, we recognize how trends like these can increase housing instability and homelessness among vulnerable populations. If this pattern continues, we anticipate a growing number of older women in Chicago will need supportive housing and services to remain safe and stable.

The families we serve are struggling because of policy changes.
These are not families who “fell on hard times.”
These are families the system has failed, repeatedly, over many years.
Every one of them is working, with our help, toward a better future.
And here is what we know: when people like you stand behind them, they succeed, despite unbelievable odds.
Your gift before May 31, 2026 will help ensure we can fill the gap left by federal policy changes. Will you make a gift?

This door is more than a door.
It represents a new beginning for a young mom who is ready to have a stable home for her young boys and the chance to focus on her new career.

Some things, like having a safe home and healthy food to eat, shouldn't depend on a policy change.
Will you to make a special fiscal year-end gift before May 31 to ensure we can fill the gap left by government program cuts?
When you give to Southside Center of Hope, you are saying:
đź’™ dignity should not be conditional,
đź’™ hope should not have an expiration date, and
đź’™ no family should have to face this moment alone.
Please give today.

At Southside Center of Hope, we know that rebuilding a life takes time, support, and a caring community.
But today, many of the resources vulnerable families depend on are becoming more uncertain.
Potential changes to food and housing assistance programs could create new challenges for the women and children we serve.
That’s why your partnership matters so much right now.
When gaps emerge, donors like you help ensure families are not facing them alone.
Will you make a special gift today to sustain Independence House families in need?

We’re thrilled to welcome two new families to Independence House. To help them settle in, we are preparing welcome kits with everyday essentials including cleaning supplies, fresh towels, and a laundry basket along with a few thoughtful touches to remind them they’re supported every step of the way.
Starting a new chapter can be both exciting and challenging, and we’re honored to walk alongside these families as they build stability, hope, and a new home.
