🌍 UN Global Media and Information Literacy Week 2026

📅 24–31 October 2026

Access to Information Is a Right. Independence Is Empowerment. ♿

Imagine needing someone else's help every time you wanted to read a label, check an important document, or access everyday information.

For persons with visual impairments, Braille is more than a reading system—it is a gateway to independence, knowledge, privacy, and equal opportunities.

📖 Braille empowers individuals to:

✅ Access information independently

✅ Develop literacy and critical thinking skills

✅ Make informed decisions with confidence

✅ Participate meaningfully in education, employment, and society

True media and information literacy begins when information is accessible to everyone.

This Global Media and Information Literacy Week, let's reaffirm our commitment to an inclusive world where accessible information is not an exception but an everyday reality.

Together, we can advocate for greater Braille accessibility in classrooms, workplaces, public spaces, and digital environments.

💙 Because access creates independence, and independence creates empowerment.

More Braille. More Accessibility. More Empowerment.

Braille Institute and Clovernook Center are proud to announce winners of first Kenya Regional Braille Challenge.

From the Likoni School, we recognize Abigael M. She is a dedicated student in Grade 9 who enjoys learning new skills, reading, and participating in activities that help her grow academically and personally. Abigael has a passion for singing and reciting poems.

From Thika Primary School, we recognize 7th grade student Martin L. He loves playing chess, exploring new places and coding. Martin documents his experiences of where he has toured and the activities he did. He loves adventures.

From Thika High School, we’re celebrating Bella E. a 17-year-old Grade 12 student whose determination, curiosity and love for learning continue to inspire those around her. A fluent speaker of English and Kiswahili, Bella is passionate about exploring the world through reading, learning and meaningful experiences.

As Abigael, Martin, and Bella prepare for their journey, their participation in Braille Challenge represents more than an individual achievement. It reflects what’s possible when organizations work together to expand access to braille literacy, celebrate students’ abilities, and connect learners across borders.

We look forward to welcoming these three students to Braille Challenge Finals 2027 and celebrating this historic milestone for Braille Challenge and our growing international community.
